Finding True Love
Finding True Love
By Kamau M. Ade
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
We all come into this world with absolutely no knowledge of it. We have no knowledge of who we are, where we are, who anyone else is, why we, anyone else, or all of this, even exists. Therefore life is one big school of learning: if we are paying attention. Now God instructs us that the beginning of learning true knowledge is the moment we begin a relationship with Him in subjection to His Son. From wisdom and instruction we gain knowledge of us, and our world. Yet only God can teach knowledge in truth. God, who is the beginning and end of all things in this finite reality, has the insight into everything we need to know to be successful in life and at living. God has recorded this knowledge in His Holy Book and through it we can find the principles of truth needed to bring us to good choices in all things that pertain to life and godliness. This does include relationships and love!
In this was manifest the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
I John 4:9
True love comes from love. Well what does that mean? God is love and the love of God is manifest or seeable in the life of His Son, and that in Him we may live. Thus we should be able to conclude that love, true love will lead to life. Now here is the true knowledge concerning love, and that is love is life: so the converse has to be that hate is death. Love is life. Hate is death. Simple truths to live by. Watch!
We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.
I John 3:14, 15
Simple truths to live by. Lovers are life-givers, and haters are killers. Maybe hard to hear, but if you can hear it you can become a walled city that no enemy invader can breach! But there is a problem. How do we know who are the lovers and who are the haters? The great thing about questions are, that every question has an answer, and not just an answer but a true answer.
See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil.
I like to use a simple algebraic equation to establish these conclusions. If A=B and B=C then A=C. Love is life and life is good. Hate is death and death is evil. Love is good and hate is evil: simple truths to live by! And what did Jesus teach us about good, evil, and people?
A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
Well look-e-here, look-e-here! Simple truths to live by. If we listen to what people are saying, and not be the selective listeners the world has become and just pick and choose the things that people say that we want to hear, or try and make them say what we want to hear. We can actually begin to see and identify the kinds of people coming across our paths. Whether they be good people or evil: lovers or haters. Lovers say the things that are good, and haters say the things that are evil. No we donít have to have a Masters degree in psychology to understand people! I believe a few centuries prior to Jesus another very wise man said the same thing!
Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
A good tree does not bear corrupt fruit and a corrupt tree does not bear good fruit. I hope that we already understand that fruit are representative of works or behavior in scripture. See loving people say and do the things that are good and beneficial: while hateful people say and do the things that are evil and destructive. Now how hard is that to understand? But still thereís more.
For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church.
Now watch what the Spirit teaches through the scripture. Everyone starts with himself. Love says and does that which is good: and what is good? What is good is that which nourishes and cherishes the object of the love. Now nourishment is food that makes and maintains health. That which is cherished is handled with care because it is of great value. Do the people that say they love you say the things that nourish you: and that doesnít necessarily mean the things you want them to say. Sometimes the things that are good for us we donít want to hear. Do they speak to you and treat you as if your friendship is very valuable to them. Or do they treat you anyway they feel in the moment as if they have some self-righteous right to you and your life: as if you are supposed to be there for them and accept any type of treatment from them because you just can't do without them or vice-versa. (Oh! oh! Had an ex-wife flashback there! lol!) Yet more importantly do you speak nourishing things to yourself, and treat yourself as if you are of great value. Because if you donít then you might just now be able to understand why loving people donít come your way, or when they do why you push them away from you. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you, and you teach a person what you want them to do to you by what you do to yourself and in return do to them. Do you want to be screamed at, then you donít scream at others. Do you want to be hit, then you donít hit others. Do you want to be lied to, then you donít lie to others. If you give yourself permission to do the negative things to others that you donít want done to you then you should take an honest look at yourself and see the murderer staring at you in the mirror. And know that God has forgiveness for murderers. He forgave and used two murderers to write some of the great books of scripture: Moses and Paul.
My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.
I John 3:18, 19
As Michael Jackson sang so eloquently a few years ago, ďIím starting with the man in the mirror: Iím asking him to change his ways, and no message couldíve been any clearer. If you wanna make the world a better place take a look at yourself and then make a change!Ē Remember, as is said, truth runs parallel upon every plane of reality. Therefore take the principle of truth in this proverb, "A chain is only as strong as its weakest link". Know and understand that a person is only as good to people as they are to the person they treat the worst. Donít be fooled by the fake appearances that they may put up to you and others. That one relationship that is foul is showing you just how they will treat you when they donít like you anymore. Be aware of those wolves that have stocked their closets with a whole wardrobe of sheepís gear to wear: and be sure that you donít have some designer lamb skinned clothing in your closet. But that your sheepskins are not clothes but your nakedness. And let our actions prove our words to be true so that we have true witness with God in our hearts. May God bless you as you do the work of His word! Amen.
