“You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O Lord.” (Psalm 139:3-4, NIV)
Recently God reminded me that there is no such thing as a “coincidence” when you’re a Christian! In April I agreed to get a roommate (she’s in college) and within a few weeks she was settled in. Her excitement about being on her own was contagious!
A few days later, however, she began getting sick and was throwing up with severe abdominal pain. She called her family and told them how bad she was feeling and that maybe she should go to the emergency room. They were a little hesitant, thinking, that maybe it was just the flu or food poisoning.
I took one look at her and said, “No way is this just the flu. It has to be appendicitis or something more serious” - especially since she had pain on only one side. I convinced her mom to take her to the ER that evening (which was Mother’s Day – nice present!).
The doctors took her in immediately and did some tests, which did not show appendicitis, but did show other suspicious areas in the abdomen. They were able to give her some pain and anti-nausea medication and recommended she follow up with her doctor. Because I had been through something similar, I knew this was serious.
I hadn’t really thought about the timing of when my roommate moved in, but as we were talking one night, she mentioned she thought God had her move in at the exact moment because she needed me. I had been where she was and I took her seriously (where maybe others wouldn’t have right away).
I love having a roommate and we have a lot in common (fancy that). Even though she moved in a full month earlier than we both had anticipated, it was God’s perfect timing. God provided for us, even before we knew we needed it!
Maybe you’re going through some circumstances that appear to be random and scary…but be encouraged - God can and does see the big picture. He knows what you need….BEFORE you even think it!
