Ode to the 'Rat Race'
Take the time to say a word;
Take the time to make it a KIND word.
Take the time to smile,
And to make it a SINCERE smile.
Take the time to shake a hand,
To WARMLY....shake a hand.
Take the time to take the time
To take the time to CARE!
Yes, of course you're in a hurry!
(I ride the 'nine to five' express, too.)
My family eats groceries,
I pay the bills, gas the car, pay the IRS
And so do you.
And ALMOST every Sunday morning,
We rush to fill our pew.
(Well, the alarm's let us down a FEW times,
The fault is 'technology.')
The clock is NOT as reliable as a rooster,
And NO, you can't pluck the feathers from the clock
And have it for Sunday dinner.
(Our muddled thoughts from oversleeping confuse the issues.)
Did we make it to church...smile, worship,
Shake the parson's hand?
Or were we thinking about the rooster
We had boiling back home in the pan?
(I believe getting rid of the alarm clock
Was somewhere in the plan!)
Forsaking the rooster, the clock AND the plan;
Abandon the RAT race and live as a MAN!

I'm with Steve. Howard this was so cleverly worded (I had a good chuckle about the alarm clock and cooking the rooster). It all flowed on so well! With love, Deb
I really liked this cleverly worded ode. Good job!
