In quest of what (in MY opinion)
Is a purer state of living,
One in which I minimize 'getting'
And maximize 'giving';
I meet with frustrations and rebuttals
Designed to make me feel
That my aims are not worthy
And my goals are not real.
I'm supposed to be a 'modern' man.
Becoming a carbon copy of each contemporary;
Forsaking that which is valuable to ME,
(And be someone elses idea of 'exemplary'!)
I would leave as my legacy...thoughts; advice
Which might ease pressures for a future generation
Instead of bank accounts, real estate
Or the insincere accolades of an unappreciative corporation.
If I fulfill the expectations of my times
And seek for OTHER'S goals as life shall flee;
In time, another traveler will view what I amassed
And in that scene, see not one hint of ME.
