I recently purchased a DVD/CD packet called Passion Talk Series: Indescribable while at Mardel Christian Books and Supplies. I was in the DVD section of the store and they have a bunch of TV's stacked on top of each other and they were showing this particular DVD. It is 43 minutes of mesmerizing images captured by the Hubble space telescope and other telescopes along with the Passion movement founder Louie Giglio providing commentary and information about the images.
It truly is a wonderful little DVD and I encourage everyone reading this to go out and get it. It is only 14.99 and it comes with a bonus CD with 5 songs on it by Chris Tomlin, Charlie Hall, Matt Redman and the David Crowder Band (two of the five are by Tomlin.)
Now, don't think I am trying to push a product on you or anything. I really think it would serve a great purpose for the Christian church body to have. As Christians I think we have a tendency to exclude science (such as astronomy-the study of the sun, moon and stars) from the Bible and faith. There are plenty of scriptures to condemn astrological worship (which is completely different from astronomy) BUT there are numerous scriptures (as found in the Psalms) that uplift God's power in creation:
"The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handiwork." (Psalm 19:1)
"By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses." (Psalm 33:6-7)
"Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of thy hands." (Psalm 102:25)
Here are some verses from other writers from the Old Testament:
"Thou, even thou, art Lord alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, and thou preservest them all; and the host of heaven worshippeth thee." (Nehemiah 9:6)
"Thus saith God the Lord, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein." (Isaiah 42:5)
"I am the Lord that maketh ALL things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; the spreadeth abroad the earth by myself." (Isaiah 44:24)
"I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things." (Isaiah 45:7)
"I have made the earth, and CREATED MAN UPON IT: I, even my hands, have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I commanded." (Isaiah 45:12)
"Mine hand also hath laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand hath spanned the heavens: when I call unto them, they stand up together." (Isaiah 48:13)
"The burden of the word of the Lord for Israel, saith the Lord, which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and formeth the spirit of man within him." (Zechariah 12:1)
Feel free to use these verses to prove to Atheist/Evolutionists who deny God and deny Creationism and that God created everything there is. And be sure to remind them that Jesus is "upholding ALL things by the word of his power." (Hebrews 1:3) And also be sure to tell them this:
"For BY him were ALL things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: ALL things were created BY him, and for him. And he IS before all things, and BY him ALL things consist." (Colossians 1:16-17)
They'll just love hearing that!
Did you know that centuries before scientists proved it, the prophet Isaiah stated that the world was in fact round, "It is he (God) that sitteth upon the CIRCLE of the earth." (Isaiah 40:22)
One point that Louie makes in the DVD is that we should some night sit out under the stars and just ponder their splendor and feel reassured in our heart that our God, our Majesty, our Maker Jesus Christ is holding it all in his hand, in full control of it all.
"O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our Maker." (Psalm 95:6)
"Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens." (Hebrews 8:1)
AWESOME! I'll check it out today. Our family has enjoyed the "Planet Earth" series, but it is disappointing that it comes from a secular perspective. How anyone could see the awesome working of creation and not believe is beyond my comprehension. Will be excited to see this from a Christian perspective, and Louie Giglio is one of my favs.
