Jesus said to Zacchaeus, “Salvation has come to this house today.”
Luke 19:9a
Salvation is repentance now!
Despite our sullied reputations,
our deceit and dishonesty,
Jesus comes to us,
asks to dine with us in our home;
we respond with joy,
giving all that we are,
and all that we have
to his glory.
Jesus says to us:
“Salvation has come to this house today.”
Salvation is renewal now!
Despite the clutter on the floor,
the dirty laundry,
the unwashed dishes,
we open the door,
allowing Christ to sweep away the mess,
cleansing us,
making us new.
Jesus says to us:
“Salvation has come to this house today.”
Salvation is redemption now!
Despite centuries of war and cruelty,
abuse of each other
and of God’s creation,
Jesus, the Living Water,
comes to us
through the poor, the lost,
the unlovely,
the feared and hated
so that we might offer
the cup of love,
kindness, and forgiveness.
Jesus says to us:
“Salvation has come to this house today.”
Salvation is reconciliation now!
Despite our cowardice,
our failures and betrayal,
Jesus hung on the cross,
suffered, died, was resurrected
so that the enemies of God
would become God’s friends;
and so we join in God’s work
of reconciling the world to God.
Jesus says to us:
“Salvation has come to this house today.”
