'What Keeps Me Going at Age 80'

1) My genes have helped:
My Wiginton Grandparents came to Oklahoma in 1887 from Alabama before Oklahoma became a State. They had 5 sons and 3 daughters.

My maternal Gr'parents moved with their children from East Texas to Oklahoma...
in a covered wagon.
Papa Savage later became Sheriff of Jackson County, Oklahoma.

2) Next to God, my greatest help is the best wife in the world, my 'Moyne (who is tilting her head right now... like she does each time I mention something about her!)

On September 13th, we will celebrate 55 years of marriage and have been blessed with precious daughters, sons, daughter-in-laws and gr'children, as well as brothers, sisters and their families.
We're also blessed with a huge Hawaiian 'Ohana' (family) from the churches we served in Hawaii who send us 'Aloha' via cards and C.A.R.E. packages.

3) A loving church family here in Norman (Bethel BC where I pastored 11 yrs) and pastor, James Ehrlich, reach out to us in many ways.
A group of ladies at Bethel send us cards each week as well as some (like Bro. James)
call to check on us.
One member (Gwen Thomas) called just now to say that she's bringing some fresh baked banana nut bread on her way to church tonight.

Pastor Cleve Haley of First Baptist Church, Noble, Ok. calls to check on us often...
and it means so much!
Our gr'son, James Wiginton (who turned 18 on Aug. 4) is a member there.
James, his girlfriend Bethany and her parents helped with Bible School as well as going to Youth Camp @ Falls Creek, then they went on a mission trip with their church to Ohio this summer.

I rec'd a very special birthday gift from a group of 37 friends...
(some are members @ Bethel BC and others, members at FBC Noble.

The card read:
"To Rev. and Mrs. Travis Wiginton:
We are pleased to announce that you have been recognized with the following inscription to be ~ETCHED IN STONE~
and placed as a part of the Tabernacle Plaza at Falls Creek Baptist Conference Center.
It will read:
IN HONOR OF TRAVIS AND LA MOYNE WIGINTON
MISSIONARIES ~ KOREA
PROVERBS 3:5-6
FRIENDS
AND
NORMAN BETHEL BAPTIST
1975-1986"

Things like THIS help to lift ANYone's spirits and helps to 'keep them going'.
It certainly warmed OUR hearts!!
Hopefully our health will get better so that we can make the 70+ miles to Falls Creek....
to view our stone (when the weather gets cooler).

4) A great neighborhood in this wonderful college town...
(in spite of the triple-digit summer weather, winter ice-storms and tornadoes!)

5) Our little dog Cosmo, thinks she has to lie down beside us here each week while we type up my articles.
She also gets me out of my chair and makes me walk...which I'm sure helps to keep me 'going'. I always use my cane, which I call my 'precautionary stick'.

6) Jesus has been my BEST friend since 11 yrs. of age when I trusted Him as my Savior.
I'm sure that I've failed Him at times, but He has NEVER failed me!
This relationship and joy has kept me going.
Please make YOUR relationship and fellowship with Him personal.

Ed Cunningham had something to say about 'Personal Experience' in his poem entitled:
'Worst Party I Ever Went To'

"Ate burnt hamburgers...
Greeted frozen people...
Heard recycled jokes....
Followed by polluted laughs.

Met you!
Danced a few slow ones....
Got off in a corner...
Learned all about you...
and told all about me.

Then drove you home
for the very first time.
Best party I ever went to!"

The initial experience with Jesus is tremendous. However it can grow and the fellowship will get even better as you get to know Him better! If it doesn't 'grow', the fault is not His...but our's.

The 4 'R's of Christianity in my life (and hopefully your's) are:
~REMEMBER the Unspeakable Promises of God
~REST in the Unshakable Power of God
~RECEIVE the Unforgettable Peace of God
~REJOICE in the Undeniable Presence of God

God has some positive answers for you and me.
1) 'It's impossible' ~
God says, "All things are possible" (Luke 18:27)

2) 'I'm too tired' ~
God says, "I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28-30)

3) 'Nobody really loves me' ~
God says, "I love you" (John 3:16 and 34)

4) 'I can't go on' ~
God says, "My grace is sufficient for you" (II Cor. 12:9 and Psalms 91:15)

5) 'I can't figure things out' ~
God says, "I will direct your steps" (Proverbs 3:5-6)

6) 'I can't do it' ~
God says, "I can do all things" (Philippians 4:13)

7) 'I'm not able' ~
God says, "I am able" (II Cor. 9:8)

So move forward and do not be defined by mistakes nor failures!

"Call unto me and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things which you know not." (Jeremiah 33:3)

I may not be rich in money, etc. but I'm a child of the King and He loves me with an Everlasting love. (Jer. 31:3)

CONCLUSION:
Matthew 28:18-20 has been called 'The Great Commission'.

Jesus said: "All power is given unto Me in Heaven and in earth. Go you therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you.
And lo I am with you always, even unto the end."

God's Power will never lessen ~
God's Presence will never leave us ~
God's Program (world missions) will never change ~
God's Promises can carry us through ~

Therefore it is not so much 'what' keeps me going, but 'Who' keeps me going!

Jesus died and rose again for us, so we can trust Him for:
'whatever'....'whenever'....and 'wherever'.

This old hymn says it well:

"Trusting Jesus"
Words: Edgar P. Stites (1876)
Music: Ira D. Sankey

Simply trusting every day,
Trusting through a stormy way;
Even when my faith is small,
Trusting Jesus, that is all.

Brightly does His Spirit shine
Into this poor heart of mine;
While He leads I cannot fall;
Trusting Jesus, that is all.

Singing if my way is clear,
Praying if the path be drear;
If in danger for Him call;
Trusting Jesus, that is all.

Trusting Him while life shall last,
Trusting Him till earth be past;
Till within the jasper wall,
Trusting Jesus, that is all.

Trusting as the moments fly,
Trusting as the days go by;
Trusting Him whate’er befall,
Trusting Jesus, that is all.

If you died today, are you absolutely certain that you would go to heaven? You can be! TRUST JESUS NOW
