NIGHT CHORUS

from BE STILL

Golden evening,
pink-tinted trees,
the sun gives a goodnight kiss;
wind-hushed forest,
a barred owl trills
a final birdsong,
all is peace,
quiet reigns,
darkness descends,
all are hushed and waiting.
Suddenly, an explosion of sound!
Thousands of voices
join the night chorus:
from towering treetops
to the ground below,
their pulsating rhythm
rises and falls,
echoing through the trees,
at once a wild and exuberant symphony,
yet a lyrical lullaby
singing my weary soul to sleep.

I confess I don't know much about the night chorus, though the dawn one is familiar; I was half expecting angels and shepherds running to the manger.
