This is my response to Faith Writers author Katherine Christiansen's article:
Christ the Lord versus The Mystical Life of Jesus.
Just so everyone knows, I let Katherine know that I was going to be publishing a response to her article she did, where she tried to evaluate the differences between Anne Rice's "Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt" and Sylvia Browne's "The Mystical Life of Jesus." I will not mince any words!
First off, I am going to re-print her entire article so you can read it for yourself, then I am going to break it down to expose the disturbing elements about it. I am going to emphasize certain words in capital letters so that you'll get a sense of where this will be going:
"The Queen of the Occult is dead! Long live the Queen who has repented and returned to the Lord. None other than Anne Rice whose fame and fortune were built on stories of vampires, witches, and the devil...is now reborn as a CATHOLIC ONCE MORE. Not only does she look light and melted away pounds but she is proof that no one is beyond redemptive salvation. Only God turned Saul, the biggest Christian persecutor of his day, into Apostle Paul on the road to Damascus. In Rice's case she found a PERSONAL CONFESSOR to repent her occult promotion ways and is now applying her God given talents to celebrate Christ.
"Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt is out of bondage for Anne Rice as she has declared that from now on she will only write about the Lord. Inklings of Divine Destiny-Anne Rice has made true on her word that she would only write for Christ...after several years of writing about fallen angels...Out of Egypt is the narrative personal account of a young Jewish boy bound for Nazareth just beginning to learn of his grand destiny. The inklings of Rice's RE-CONVERSION to Catholicism ARE OBVIOUS in her writings. This is a hypnotic book on the early beginnings of what would become Christianity...and a clear indication that the former Queen of the Occult...has embraced the Lord.
"On the other hand...is the false prophetess Sylvia Browne...and her deceptive book on The Mystical Life of Jesus. Consider the Source. Sylvia Browne told the parents of a missing child on Montel Williams that their son was dead and they needed to release him in order for his spirit to cross over to the other side. A few years later the child was found alive and well. Under her previous surname spelling of 'Brown' she has a criminal record in the state of California for securities fraud where she debunked investors by telling them that her psychic ability indicated the investment would make them lots of money. These are just two incidents and don't forget she said the Sago Miners were safe on national TV until they were found dead except for one. Consider the Source. This is a book about Christ. Christ himself said that not all spirits are to be believed, they must be tested, and only those spirits who are of God are to be listened to. Now, going back to the Old Testament...there is a commandment among the 10 that says 'Thou shalt not lie' and 'Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord in vain' and 'You shall not steal.' Please note that I am NOT a bible thumper and am OPEN to spirituality. In all things practice discernment. The Bible also warns-Even the devil himself disguises as an angel of light to deceive because especially he knows the Bible itself inside and out to mislead spiritual seekers.
"BROWNE DID HAVE A PROPHETIC GIFT FROM BIRTH just as Rice had her ability to write beautifully. The later is dedicating it to God who granted it in the first place. The former has NOT DONE WHAT THE BIBLE ASKED FOR THOSE GIFTED WITH SPIRITUAL GIFTS. RATHER THAN USE HER PSYCHIC ABILITY TO BUILD THE CHURCH, BROWNE HAS CREATED HER OWN CHURCH, AND IS LEADING PEOPLE AWAY FROM THE ONE TRUE GOD.
"All I have to say is-God can have mercy."
*That is the end of the article.
Okay, in Katherine's article here, she discusses two subjects I have previously written about...Anne Rice and her book "Christ the Lord" as found in my article "What does God's Word say about Witchcraft?" and Sylvia Browne's Gnostic-driven "The Mystical Life of Jesus-An Uncommon Perspective on the Life of Christ" as found in my 3-part article "Woe Unto Sylvia Browne, the psychic." I strongly encourage Katherine and anyone else reading this who has not read those articles to please do so in order to get the full picture.
Anne Rice's intent with her "Christ the Lord" series is to "fill in the 30 year gap" of time between the manger and Jesus' baptism. Well, guess what? The Bible does NOT feature anything that transpired in Jesus' life in that span of time, save for the time spent in the temple at the age of 12 (Luke 2:42-52). ANY attempt to "fill in" this gap would mean to totally make up stuff or rely on heretical texts.
It is true that Anne was a Catholic but left the Catholic Church, which is when she began writing about vampires, witches and so on. But in 1998 she returned to the Church and began work on "Christ the Lord." Mysticism exists within the Church and there are even former Catholics (Sylvia Browne) who now claim to be Gnostic Christians who rely on corrupt texts, such as the Gospel of Judas, Gospel of Mary, Gospel of Thomas and on and on.
Consider the content of this web site for evidence:
Any born again believer in Jesus (by faith ALONE, without works) should know that Anne's "Christ the Lord" novels are heresy, adding to and removing from the nature and character of Jesus Christ. This is exactly what Gnostic writings do. I cannot implore my fellow born again believers enough to examine these things closely in order to counter the devil's work. Take the blinders off believers and let the light of Jesus Christ shine back in to be your guide. You can't all be THAT busy to not be able to do some research into these things to see how false and evil they are!
I have a copy of Anne Rice's "Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt" novel, the 2008 Ballantine Books Trade Paperback Edition. In the section called "Author's Note," she rattles off a host of human books she claims provided much insight into the Gospels and various views of Jesus himself. In fact, she appears to rely far too much on these human writings than the Word of God itself. On page 335, she feels that the Gospels were, "...preserved without question THOUGH THEY CONTRADICTED ONE ANOTHER." Not being able to understand that the Gospels are purposely set up the way they are and that none of them would read exactly the same, comes from a lack of spiritual discernment. Look at what Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 2:14, "But the natural man receiveth NOT the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned."
The human philosophers she lists in this section reads like a rap sheet for criminal man-made teachings. They are too numerous to list here, so just look through pages 328-341. Anne Rice's views certainly seep through in interviews and in the Author's Note in regards to humanity, social ills, God (to her) and theology. She believes that all humans are God's children and that he wants us all to come home. None of this of course is biblically sound; for one is ONLY a child of God and will go home as she phrases it, when you receive Jesus as your personal Saviour by faith, without works of any kind! In 2005, she answered letters on a blog, stating this:
"In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus spoke with eternal eloquence of the love of the Father for us; he did not say that this love applied only to those chosen by 'adoption.' My particular ministry as a Catholic is to stress love, and the approach of love and tolerance, an awareness of the sacred quality of every human, whether that human is a Jew, a Moslem, a GAY CHRISTIAN, a secular materialist who is striving to make the quality of life better for the poor. My ministry is not to divide over points of 'doctrine' or theological nuances."
Yeah, don't let those pesky doctrines of the Word of God get in your way of espousing your all-love God lady! It's the Word of God that does the dividing not me or any other believer! While she does admit to using the Gospels for the book, she provides the smoking gun that tells us how the story took shape:
"Then there were the legends-the Apocrypha-including the tantalizing tales in the Infancy Gospel of Thomas describing a boy Jesus who could strike a child dead, bring another to life, turn clay birds into living creatures, and perform other miracles. I'd stumbled on them very early in my research, in multiple editions, and never forgotten them. And neither had the world. They were fanciful, some of them humorous, extreme to be sure, but they had lived on into the Middle Ages, and beyond. I couldn't get these legends out of my mind. Ultimately I chose to EMBRACE this material, to enclose it WITHIN THE CANONICAL FRAMEWORK AS BEST I COULD. I FELT THERE WAS A DEEP TRUTH IN IT, and I wanted to preserve that truth as it spoke to me."
So she is pouring the contents from the cup of devils into the cup of the Lord, "Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils." (1 Corinthians 10:21) Look, anybody unsaved, who thinks they have a love for God can make any material sound godly just like a born again believer can! Let's not forget 2 Corinthians 11:14-15:
"And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works."
As far as the Apocrypha or apocryphal (non-inspired) writings goes, Josephus, a 1st century Jewish historian made it very clear that the Hebrew canon included 22 books, none of which were apocryphal. Athanasius, a bishop of Alexandria did NOT include the Apocrypha as part of the Old Testament canon and in a letter he listed the 22 Old Testament books and 27 canonical books of the New Testament stating, "These are the fountains of salvation, that they who thirst may be satisfied with the living words they contain. In these alone is proclaimed the doctrine of godliness." (Philip Schaff and Henry Wace, Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers, Second Series, vol. IV, St. Athanasius, Letter 39.6, Grand Rapids: Eerdmans, 1953, page 552)
Melito of Sardis, a Christian writer around 180 AD listed 22 books for the Hebrew canon. Other early church fathers who agreed with the composition of the 22-book Hebrew canon, omitting the Apocrypha were Epiphanius, Basil the Great, Gregory of Nazianzen and Hilary of Poitiers. But at the Council of Trent in 1548, the Roman Catholic Church declared the Apocrypha to be actual Scripture. In the days in which the King James Bible was put together, the Apocrypha was accepted reading based only on its historical value and NOT accepted as Scripture by anyone outside the Catholic Church. The King James translators therefore placed it BETWEEN the Old and New Testaments, instead of integrating it into the Old Testament text as the corrupt Alexandrian texts do which is where the Catholic Bibles come from. The translators listed 7 famous reasons for not integrating the Apocrypha into the Old Testament test:
"1. Not one of them is in the Hebrew language, which was alone used by the inspired historians and poets of the Old Testament.
2. Not one of the writers lays any claim to inspiration.
3. These books were never acknowledged as sacred Scripture by the Jewish church, and therefore were never sanctioned by our Lord.
4. They were not allowed a place among the sacred books, during the first four centuries of the Christian church.
5. They contain fabulous statements, and statements which contradict not only the canonical Scriptures, but themselves; as when in the books of Maccabees, Antiochus Epiphanes is made to die three different deaths in as many different places.
6. It inculcates doctrines at variance with the Bible, such as PRAYERS FOR THE DEAD and sinless perfection.
7. It teaches immoral practices, such as lying, suicide, assassination and magical incantation." (Answers To Your Bible Version Questions, David W. Daniels, Chick Publications, 2003, page 140)
With the Apocrypha placed between the Old and New Testaments, each page was clearly labeled, "Apocrypha." Anne Rice had mentioned the Infancy Gospel of Thomas, which dates back to the 2nd century. This is a heretical gospel and clearly not written by the Apostle Thomas. It contains heretical and fictitious stories about Jesus as a child going to Egypt, then out of Egypt and into Nazareth and things in between. What follows is just an example of this gospel's contents:
"And the Jews seeing what had happened, wondered, and went away and told the miracles which Jesus had done. But a Pharisee who was with Jesus took an olive branch, and began to let the water out of the fountain which Jesus had made. And when Jesus saw this, He said to him IN A RAGE: Thou impious and ignorant Sodomite, what harm have my works the fountains of water done thee? Behold, thou shalt become like a dry tree, having neither roots, nor leaves, nor fruit. And immediately he dried up, and fell to the ground, and died."
Now, does any of what happened there sound like our Jesus of the Bible? Your answer should be no! Jesus never murdered anyone nor was he enraged at anyone. In fact, when his Apostles asked if they should call down fire from heaven, Jesus rebuked them (Luke 9:51-55). Then in that same chapter, Jesus declared that, "The Son of man IS NOT come to destroy men's lives, but to SAVE them." (Luke 9:56) And the time when he showed anger, which would correctly be called righteous anger, would be found in John 2:13-17 when he cleared the temple of the money changers and sellers of animals.
In the "A Reader's Guide" section of the book, she expresses her hope that she made her Jesus character as real as the vampire characters she wrote about years before. First off, it is not up to us to "make Jesus real" to anybody...the Bible does that! The gospel of Christ is laid out in simple terms for us in scripture to relay to others and the Holy Ghost convicts them, revealing all truth which is found in God's Word. Here is a web site with a revealing article on Rice's book:
To get back to Katherine's article. According to her bio she was raised a Catholic and Pentecostal, which seems odd to me because they are like night and day different from each other, so she would have to be ONE or the other. You can't serve the true living God Jesus and a wafer cookie as a god at the same time! Jesus even said for us to serve God OR Satan...NOT both.
In the first paragraph of Katherine's article she said that Anne Rice had "found a personal confessor to repent her occult promotion ways." I believe this is what the Catholic Church would call a priest. The Church teaches that a loyal Catholic has to confess their sins to a priest inside a booth, then say the Hail Mary to be forgiven. Consider this quote from William Doyle "Shall I be a priest" pp 14, 15: "the poor sinner kneels at his confessor's feet. He KNOWS he is not speaking to an ordinary man but to 'ANOTHER CHRIST,' He hears the words: 'I absolve thy sins..."
So all Anne did was confess her sins to another sinner, a human being and IS NOT forgiven of anything. Even the religious men of Jesus' time said, "Who can forgive sins but God ALONE?" (Luke 5:21) Rice's confession story goes as follows as found on the below web site:
"One afternoon in 1998 she asked her assistant to recommend a priest who might hear her confession, a Catholic rite of penitence. She said, 'I know the perfect person, and he's there now.' After a two-hour-maybe even three-session with her CONFESSOR, Rice returned to the Church, setting aside her reservations, especially the Catholic Church's stance on homosexuality. (Rice's son, Christopher, is gay.)
An additional statement is made in the above article saying, "As for her fans who are more accustomed to reading about immortal vampires, Rice believes her newest 'character' might not be so different. 'Is Christ our Lord not the ultimate supernatural hero,' she asks rhetorically in the Author's Note, 'the ultimate outsider, the ultimate immortal of them all?'" So this is who Jesus is to Rice? Just another supernatural "hero?" Sorry, but Jesus is not some comic book figure! Sure she professes a love and belief in Christ, but her views of who Jesus is biblically are off kilter. In another article she talks about her gay son, Christopher and the Church's attitude toward homosexuality.
"Well, it still causes me great sadness, the treatment of homosexuals in the Church. I feel-and I don't speak for the Church but as one person-but I think we will see the Church open the doors to gay people very soon. I think that the message of the Scriptures is that the holiness code in which gay behavior is condemned is made obsolete by Jesus. I think we will see theology that will embrace gays as the children of God like anyone else."
It is so sad to see that this compromising attitude has seeped into even the Catholic Church, seeing as it has had its run of vile pedophilia priests abusing altar boys. Sexual abuse in the Church has been well documented, but rarely anything gets done about it. In fact it serves as a haven for homosexuals; for men to come in as priests and prey on young children, knowing nothing will happen to them if caught. There are plenty of testimonies out there that expose the homosexual disease destroying the Catholic Church and the Christian church body, with gays being ordained as clergy, leaders in local or national congregations.
Many ex or former nuns, priests (including a Jesuit) who are now believers in Jesus Christ by faith alone and have come out of the Catholic Church, have written testimonies of their lives in the Church and then how they got saved and left the Church.
Mary Ann Collins was a nun in the Catholic Church who is now a born again believer and has written numerous books exposing the evils within it.
A Google search for "Testimonies of former Catholic nuns and priests" will pull up thousands of results. See the Roman Catholic section of this web site for great testimonies from former nuns and priests:
In the second paragraph Katherine said that Jesus as a boy was "just beginning to LEARN of his grand destiny." Here again lies the core of the Gnostic attitude: that Jesus was merely a human pawn in a celestial game and that the Christ was a spirit being that possessed him and the crucifixion would release it. If I need to, I'll remind everyone that Jesus is God in the flesh, hence he knew exactly (even before he took on flesh) what he was going to do for us pathetic, sinful humans: it was arranged since the foundation of the world, therefore there was no "learning" of his destiny to be done. The blood covenant was between God and Jesus!
In the third paragraph, she makes it crystal clear in saying "Please note I am not a bible thumper" that she has contempt for those of us who ARE Bible thumpers. I am one and proud of it! I think it is great that there are Catholics out there that are reading the Bible ON THEIR OWN. The Church is clear though in its teaching that only its Magisterium is able or allowed to interpret the Bible. And even at that, the Bible of the Catholic Church is a false one, which I have explored with great effort in my 2-part article called "Bible Corruption Throughout History." Consider these quotes from the Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2nd Edition, Feb. 2007, paragraph 100:
"The task of interpreting the Word of God AUTHENTICALLY has been SOLELY entrusted to the Magisterium of the Church, that is, to the Pope and to the bishops in communion with him."
"Sacred Tradition and Sacred Scripture, then, are bound closely together and communicate one with the other. For both of them, flowing out from the same divine well-spring, come together in some fashion to form ONE THING and move towards the same goal." (paragraph 80)
"As a result the Church, to whom the transmission and interpretation of Revelation is entrusted, 'DOES NOT derive her certainty about all revealed truths from holy Scriptures alone. BOTH Scripture and Tradition MUST be accepted and honored with equal sentiments of devotion and reverence.'" (paragraph 82)
And now consider these quotes from Catholic officials concerning the Word of God:
"The belief in the Bible as the sole source of faith is UNHISTORICAL, ILLOGICAL, FATAL TO THE VIRTUE OF FAITH, AND DESTRUCTIVE OF UNITY." (Catholic Encyclopedia, Volume XIII, "Protestantism," Section III A-Sola Scriptura, February 1, 1912)
"The Church Council of Tarragona ruled that: 'No one may possess the books of the Old and New Testaments in the Romance language, and if anyone possesses them he must turn them over to the local bishop within eight days after the promulgation of this decree, so they may be burned." (D. Lortsch, Histoire de la Bible en France, 1910, page 14)
"Socialism, Communism, clandestine societies, Bible societies...pests of this sort must be destroyed by all means." (The encyclical Quanta Cura issued by Pope Pius IX, December 6, 1866)
"The very nature of the Bible ought to prove to any thinking man the impossibility of its being the one safe method to find out what the Savior taught." (Question Box, page 67)
"A competent religious guide must be clear and intelligible to all, so that everyone may fully understand the true meaning of the instructions it contains. Is the Bible a book intelligible to all? Far from it; it is full of obscurities and difficulties not only for the illiterate, but even for the learned." (The Faith of Our Fathers, page 70)
"How can you get the true meaning of the Bible? You can get it ONLY from God's official interpreter, the Catholic Church." (A Catechism for Adults, page 10)
The fact is that the Catholic Church has fought vigorously against Sola Scriptura (Scripture Alone) for centuries, hence making Christ their enemy at the same time. In other articles on this site, I have well documented Rome's utter hatred of the Word of God and how it tried to wipe the Bible off the face of the earth and how it mercilessly butchered Protestants all over Europe for centuries upon centuries. And check out this site featuring an article about a document calling Scriptures dangerous:
Katherine also says she is "open to spirituality." I wonder just how open she is and to what kind of spirituality? The last paragraph is very telling; here it is again:
"Browne did have a prophetic gift from birth just as Rice had her ability to write beautifully. The later is dedicating it to God who granted it in the first place. The former has not done what the bible asked for those gifted with spiritual gifts. Rather than use her psychic ability to build the church, Browne has created her own church, and is leading people away from the one true God."
First off, Sylvia Browne is an unsaved sinner possessed by a devil calling itself Francine (a spirit guide) that gives her false and heretical information about Jesus, God and salvation to spread to the world. She is neither a prophetess nor does she have a spiritual gift. Her psychic power comes from the unclean spirit possessing her. God clearly condemns this activity throughout the Bible! Psychic power is NOT a spiritual gift from God! It is not too surprising to read Katherine's comment that Sylvia should have used her psychic ability to build the church because Spiritism and Mysticism exist within the Catholic Church.
Information I obtained from Sylvia's web site reveals a great deal about her "abilities" and the "church" she has founded called Novus Spiritus. Gnosticism is clearly taught and promoted in her ministry of devils. Consider the following from her "church's" site:
Under the heading of "Gnostic Christians:"
"Since the earliest times the Gnostics (from the Greek word gnosis-meaning knowledge) have espoused the primacy of intellect OVER faith. Novus follows that idea. Indeed, we find that you may directly experience God's wisdom. One such way is THROUGH Sylvia Browne, yet any person may also reach into the mind of God, thereby finding great truths. And never forget, every person is part of God. This means anyone can be an agent for the Divine, and reveal great wisdom from Him (and Her!). Novus Spiritus regards understanding as MORE important than faith."
Did you catch the glaring heresy in the first sentence where it said, "...intellect over faith?" The Bible clearly teaches that the knowledge of men will be brought to nothing. Therefore it is faith that saves! Just look at Romans 3:27-28 for an example. You CANNOT be saved without faith in Jesus Christ, in his shed blood, it is as simple as that. Have all the intellectual knowledge you want about him, but until you believe on him, you will go to hell after you die! Faith is vital and important and vastly out weighs intellect! Novus also says we all have a little piece of God inside us, a Divine spark if you will. This is heresy as well!
Finally I would like to say that this piece is not a personal attack on Katherine but is merely a message meant to alert her and others to the incorrect mindset regarding Catholicism and true Biblical teaching. The King James Version Bible is the TRUE Word of God and I encourage Katherine to pick it up and read the Gospel of John to see who Jesus truly is! I would also like to tell her that God is inviting her to become a true child of his by a simple act of faith in Jesus. The Bible clearly teaches that one must only trust in Jesus to be saved; that we are justified by faith alone upon the moment we believe in Jesus as our Saviour. Justification is instantaneous, while sanctification is a process. Our sins are forgiven when we trust in him as our Saviour and repent of our sins.
One simply CANNOT earn or perform to obtain salvation. There is NO amount of good ANYONE can do to earn salvation! God did ALL the work for you on the cross so you would not have to do anything but believe on his only begotten Son, Jesus Christ! The gospel of Christ is not faith...and. It is faith...period. Look at Romans 1:16:
"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth."
I pray that Katherine will consider what I have said in this article and that the Holy Ghost will work on her heart to reveal to her the truth of the gospel of Christ! Remember God wants a personal relationship with you Katherine through Jesus by faith alone. He hates religion and when people try to work their way into heaven through sacraments, devotion to Mary and good deeds or formal ceremonies...it will get you nowhere fast! Your good works come as a result of salvation by faith in Christ...NOT a cause for it and it is God doing the work into you, which brings true glory and praise to God through Jesus! We can do nothing apart from Christ and everything we do in Jesus brings God glory.
As born again believers, we must all pray that Catholics, Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses (religions that call themselves Christian-but are not) would be convicted by the Holy Ghost and come to saving faith in Christ where God will bring them OUT of those religions and into a personal relationship with him!

This is great! Thanks, Chris, for the work you do for the Kingdom and being a 'watchman on the wall'. God has His hand on your work.......... Paul
Hi, Chris...You obviously have done a great deal of research and I understand where you are coming from, however, I wonder if the person you are trying to reach with this information will actually read your article. Perhaps a bit more compassion could be shown for those that satan, the enemy of the church has deceived. Their are many, many people out there that believe everyone is going to heaven since God is love and would never send anyone to hell. That only proves they have not had an encounter with our JESUS. For those that are deceived deserve our prayers for their release from their bondage. Do you remember the scripture that says "satan goes around SEEKING whom he may devour"....satan needs a body to operate through and there are many willing to be devoured, they just don't realize what is happening. satan always takes 'some' truth and twist it to suit his kingdom. We must keep our focus on JESUS and HIS WORD and pray for those that don't. See you soon....God bless, Chris, and keep growing IN HIM.
I'm curious how you know so certainly that Catholics don't have a personal relationship with God. I'll have to tell my Catholic friends. Only God knows the heart. Jerry
