I took a walk along the pier
to watch the boats drift far and near
different sizes shapes and styles
revealing weathered stormy miles.
A dinghy tows a crippled ship
and slowly steers it to its slip.
I watched the crew struggle with sails
damaged and torn by stormy gales.
A cruiser gliding out to sea
starting the morning problem free.
Captain whistling at the helm
no storm in sight to overwhelm.
Then suddenly rammed from below
hit a glacier of frozen snow!
A damaged ship beyond repair
waiting for help from way out there.

A boat is like a person’s life
surviving trials pain and strife.
It doesn’t matter the size of the boat,
there’s always a struggle to keep it afloat.
