Ever since the first sheep was cloned, society has debated the ethics of cloning and genetic engineering. Fish genes have been used to alter the DNA of tomatoes, but it it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. I want my tomatoes to taste tomatoey, like God intended.
Something smells fishy in Denmark, the way human genes are being used in Frankenstein experiments! How far should mankind go in tampering with nature, even if the outcome is supposedly for the collective benefit of all mankind?
The devil is a sneaky old snake who’s wily enough to sneak in through any tiny crack left for him in the door. Man’s tendency to resort to situational ethics rather than adhering to the Truth of God’s Word presents a wide window of opportunity for satan to swoop in to deceive the masses.
Scientists swear up and down that if they do clone humans, it will only be to use the embryos to obtain stem cells to combat incurable diseases, and the cloned embryo would never be permitted to develop to full term. But even if scientists resisted the temptation to produce human clones and destroyed the embryos after they’d fulfilled their purpose, it would still amount to abortion, which is murder of a living human.
Today we face the bizarre prospect of the advent of a being part human and part animal. It is now possible to create a human with one per cent animal genes! And if that’s no problem, then the next logical step would be to create a being with a much greater ratio of animal to human DNA, a human-animal hybrid, or “humanimal”.
Just because some human achievement is possible, doesn’t make it ethical. The fact an invention is detrimental to human welfare doesn’t stop it from being developed. Consider various inventions of the past century: the atomic bomb which destroyed the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and melted away the flesh off hundreds of thousands of people. Later came the hydrogen bomb, a hundred times deadlier. The latest bright idea in nuclear technology is the Neutron Bomb, which kills the people and spares the roof over their head.
Napalm, a petroleum derivative , was used in the Vietnam War. It sticks like glue to the bodies of people it burns alive. Today implantable microchips are being promoted in the interest of peace and security (safety) bringing to mind I Thes. 5:3, a prophecy of the coming Antichrist who will probably use a refined version of this technology to implant the his Mark of the Beast. This is an age of evil inventions and scary technology (Rom.1:30).
Genetic mixing is as old as man. The book of Genesis records a time in early human history when the “sons of God” lusted after and interbred with “the daughters of men”, or human women (Gen.6:1-2). Bible scholars differ on the origins of these “sons of God”. Some think that they were literal angels who came down to earth from heaven to cohabit with human women. The other major viewpoint is that since angels are believed to be sexless, it must have been backsliders from the godly seed of Seth who mated with daughters of the corrupt seed of Cain.
I am of the opinion that real heavenly angels who “left their first estate” (Jude 6) and “kept not their own habitation” (dwelling place) came down to live with human women and produced offspring by them. Genesis 6:4 records that after these “sons of God” mated with human women, “mighty men of renown” were born, who were giants.
Job 1:6 and 38:7 strongly indicate that those “sons of God” WERE angels, some of whom were fallen. Satan was among those “sons of God” who appeared before God to report their activities. And if the “sons of God” who mated with the “daughters of men” were merely offspring of Seth who married Cainite women, the Cainites must have been exceptionally tall and strong to produce mighty giants, and it seems odd that the daughters of Seth would not also have been numbered among “the daughters of men.” If daughters of Seth weren’t numbered among “the daughters of men” just as much as Cainite women, then whose daughters were they? All humankind descended from Adam, and God made all mankind of one blood (Acts 17:26). For these reasons, the non-angelic interpretation doesn’t make much sense.
God is a God of order. Mankind was created in His own image (Gen.1:27). Animals are an inferior order of creation, who possess a type of soul but no eternal spirit such as man does. A monkey has a sense of humor and can even use sticks for tools. An animal can even love you and be loyal to you. But an animal cannot worship God in Spirit and in truth. God created each creature after its own kind (Gen.1:21). His divinely decreed boundaries in nature must be respected, or man will suffer the repercussions. If God was furious about angels mating with women, He must be equally as irked about man’s effort to create animal-human hybrids.
Not to imply that this sounds at all science fiction. But if you haven't -- check out the Harrison Ford film
"Bladerunner". He plays a bounty hunter out to exterminate the "more human than human" created beings. I believe the flood was God's wrath to destroy the seeds of the sons of God cohabitating with motal women. "And so shall it be as in the days of Noah..." Would imply that something of equal magnititude is likely to occur that would infuriate our Lord. Thank you for your insight Patricia. The Lord Bless You.
