Someone once said that love remembers no wrong[s] but that someone never lived a day in the life of today. Love is a word that is thrown around now, it does not mean what it originally did. Sex is casual and no longer intimate, marriage is no longer sacred [it is something we do on the spur of a moment and then regret it 10 minutes down the road], and having children has become a mistake coming from a “good time.” Society today is going to hell in a hand basket. As each day passes on we care less and less about what the future holds. Our own [selfish] future plans vacant our minds more than what we need to do to prepare for an eternity with Christ. We are not preparing the world and ourselves [for the final days] as Jesus commanded us to.
We work, work, work, and work…what does it accomplish? It accomplishes nothing; all you will get is more money. Well, I guess if you’re greedy everybody wins. Now, I understand we need money to survive in this world but let me tell you something, money is not everything. God will take care of you. My husband and I are pure examples of God’s grace and mercy. There have been plenty of times when we did not have enough money for anything but we got it somehow without a loan or the bank account going negative. God is good; He does take care of us…just like He promises. The more money we make the more money we want, I guarantee it. There is a particular verse in the bible that everyone misinterprets, 1 Timothy 6:10 “for the love of money is the root of all evil.” It’s not the money that’s evil; the evil is inside of you. It is fine if you own money, whether it is a little or a lot; just don’t let it get to your head. A good example we good use from our modern day is the city working man. Now let’s say this man’s name is Tom and Tom has a family waiting on him at home. Tom’s boss offers him a new higher paying position but makes him aware it means he must stay at work through odd hours of the night, and basically never gets to spend time at home. He takes the job and reluctantly forgets to tell his wife. Every night at dinner time he calls the family to let them know he can’t make it because he has to work late. Before Tom even knows it, his family is non-existent. His wife is having an affair and filing for divorce, his son is in jail facing time for drugs, and his daughter is pregnant and ran away with her boyfriend. Now, I know that is a little farfetched, and realistically it’s not. Things like this happen every day because we care about making more money than showing our family love and helping them grow. So, when all is said and done, Tom has his money, his house, his fancy car, but no one to share it with. The people that he cared more about left him, just like he left them; but they don’t plan on returning…ever. The rest of the verse from Timothy goes on to say, “And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.” I will let you reflect on that concerning our previous story.
We forget about love. Love has been replaced with lust. When we really think we love somebody and all we want to do is slip into bed with them, do you really think that is true and pure love? 1 John tells us that God is love and to be honest I don’t see God jumping into bed with anyone any time soon. Our bodies have overtaken our minds and make us think that lust is a good and honest replacement, when in all honesty it is most certainly not. Love is not counting down to the day when the two of you can have sex [and it not be wrong in God’s eyes], it’s more than that. Sex is a great addition to love that God did indeed create for marriage and only marriage, but it’s not as big of a deal as people make it out to be. Today’s interpretation of sex is pornography. Not to knock anyone down, but that is not sex, that is just vile and disgusting. It is meant to be intimate and something shared between a man and his wife; it is supposed to be enjoyed not a means of income. I commend the XXX Church on their missions and views towards pornography and their attempts to abolish it [www.xxxchurch.com]. Anyway…
Love is about laughing with one another, enjoying the time you have spent together. “Love is patient, love is kind. Love is not jealous or boatful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance” [1 Corinthians 13:4-7].
