We build empires on the backs of slaves;
we ignore the cries of the suffering;
we are insatiable,
serving the masters of greed and power.
We worship gods in our own image.
Holy, holy, holy!
The Lord Almighty is holy!
God's glory fills the world.
To whom can God compare?
Who else is like our Lord?
We are full of knowledge, but never wise;
we fill our bellies, wallets, houses, closets,
but we're never full;
we laugh and play, drink and dance,
but we're never happy.
We serve the gods of our desires.
Holy, holy, holy!
The Lord Almighty is holy!
God's glory fills the world.
To whom can God compare?
Who else is like our Lord?
We quarrel and fight,
criticize and complain;
we sow seeds of contempt, hatred, and bitterness;
we bludgeon others
with our righteousness and holiness;
we call war justice,
revenge divine retribution.
We serve the gods of anger, fear, and jealousy.
Holy, holy, holy!
The Lord Almighty is holy!
God's glory fills the world.
To whom can God compare?
Who else is like our Lord?
When we admit our need,
acknowledge our barren empty souls;
when we fill our minds
with the knowledge of Christ,
and bow in humility, contrite and repentant;
when we sow the seeds
of peace and reconciliation,
and we treat others as God has treated us,
with mercy, kindness, love, and compassion,
we serve a holy God.
Holy, holy, holy!
