Tiny geckos
Garbed in green
Brazenly change
Without a hint
Of modesty
Into black clothes
To strut
Across my window screen.
Squirrels
In furry gray suits
Stand two legs tall
To show off
White silk shirts.
Papa Cardinal
Takes watchful perch
Upon bird-feeder roof
While red-headed Mama
And babies
Line the ledge
For breakfast.
Brown wrens
Hide inside
Full crepe myrtle trees
To rustle leafy branches
And shake
From bright red blooms
Their smallest petals.
Petunias
Pink and purple
Stand spindly
On their tiptoes
To try to make
Their faces
Touch the sun.
As I watch
nature’s beauty
I’m reminded
God watches over
From above
All that I see
And me.
