"Devote yourselves to prayer being watchful and thankful." Colossians 4:2
Dwight Moody once said, “ Some people think God does not like to be troubled with our constant asking. But the way to trouble God is not to come at all.” Amazing that the God who created us and the whole universe, will be available to us 24 hours a day, listening to each and every prayers.
I’ve heard and read so much about prayers, even experienced and witnessed many answered prayers that I believe for a fact that God hears every prayer from the heart. And yet, I’ve been asking myself why I tend to take prayer so casually at times that I am ashamed to say there were days when the only prayer I uttered was, “Lord, help me!”
Last night, as I was reading my devotional, once again God reminded me how important it is to pray. I mean, really pray. Not a hurried prayer and just one task to be accomplished in my already overcrowded schedule. The enemy can easily distract us from praying through the hustle and bustle of everyday life that it can be difficult to hear God’s silent whisper. But praise God, as I stopped and listened, He pointed in my heart again the importance of prayer. I am just so excited about it that I decided to write it down and share this with you.
As a mother, I worry about my children. I believe most parents do. But as I prayed, God showed me through His Word that my children’s future is in His hands . As I trust God with all my heart, He will fulfill His promises as He says in Isaiah 44:3, “I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring and my blessings to your descendants.” Then on Psalms 103: 17-18 it again reminded me , “But for everlasting to everlasting, the Lord’s love is for those who fear Him and His righteousness with their children’s children-with those who keep His covenant and remember to obey his precepts.” I got my journal, I titled, “First Aid for Mother’s Soul” and wrote these verses down, and I know from now on, I will write down my prayers and watch how God will orchestrate my children’s future. He never fails.
I know God speaks to me by reminding me to continue praying. This morning, I made it my priority. I prayed to God for my family to strengthen our relationship with Him and with each other. I prayed for those who need healing physically and spiritually. I prayed for myself that God will continue to reveal His will and for me to live a life worthy of the Lord and pleasing to Him. I suggest that you read the Apostle Paul’s prayer from Colossians 1:9-13. I did and inserted a name of a person I wanted to pray for on that prayer. I can not wait to see how God will work!
When we pray, mighty things happen. And when God speaks, we better listen.Or else we will miss those many blessings he has in store for us, which can be His way of answering our prayers.
Someone once said that people may reject our message, oppose our arguments, even despise us, but they are helpless against our prayers. So what are you waiting for?
Go ahead, pray on!
A great eye opening article. This has taught me a great lesson today. I have been studying on prayer lately as well. Guilty of hustled prayers and grocery lists. I have did the speaking and ignoring the listening. Thank you for sharing this article with us that we may gain and witness the powerful movement of God. Keep serving. In Christ, Christian
I've read your good article three times now, and then got distracted before I could comment on it. So here goes. You have hit on some very good points. I find myself praying so many times during the day, when I don't have time to stop what I am doing. I believe that God DOES listen. He is not on a time schedule, nor does He work in shifts. His ear is open to our cry, night or day..Thanks so much for this lesson. PRAY ON!...Helen
This is a great reminder. I tend to think that my prayers don't go high enough, aren't heard as loudly as others. I'm glad there's verses like this that point to the contrary. God does hear me and I do need to pray often. Thank you.
You are so right, Gloria. When God speaks and we're listening and actually hear His Voice - I believe there is no greater joy for Him. We know that we are never alone because we have Him with us forever as He's promised. I'm sure, however, there are so many times when He is alone because we are off doing our thing not taking notice of His Presence; but when we are communing with Him in Spirit and Prayer - His joy is made full and in turn so is ours. Let's live this day and everyday henceforth in His wise, protective Presence being bathed in our cups that are sure to run over! Blessings, sister - Jody
You are right, prayer is so important in our walk. Prayer changes us. The answers to our prayers increase our faith. Communicating with God draws us closer as it is a two way conversation when we are still and listen. Thanks for your wisdom.
Gloria, this was excellent! You have inspired me with your beautiful words and your personal examples of the way you respond to the Lord. God bless you for opening your heart to Him and for showing us how follow in your footsteps! Our 'job' is to focus on God through our prayers and praise and then allow Him to do the rest. With love, SiS Peggy
Yes, this is very well done and thank you for sharing your heart with us. Galatians 6:1 tells us that we are to bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. So we had better pray on and bear one another's burdens. I love you, Sharon
