Burdened, weary, and frail, Father,
are just a few of the words
I use to express the conditions of life.
All seemed so unhopeful and dark
feeling all alone
the need for a Savior set in
realizing I couldn’t solve the problem of sin
or do away with my guilt on my own.
Your word has taught me
my need of You
and most importantly, my worth to You.
Through the cross of Christ
I’m shown the importance and worthiness
of my life in Your eyes.
The only way to You, is through the Son, Jesus:
“I am the way, the truth, and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)
This requires forgiveness from You, Father,
and this forgiveness has two sides,
Your offer and my acceptance.
I must accept the gift of salvation from sin.
Your forgiveness begins as I repent:
“Repent therefore and be converted,
that you sins may be blotted out,
so that times of refreshing may come,
from the presence of the Lord.” (Acts 3:19);
Truly these times of ignorance God overlooked,
but now commands all men everywhere
to repent, (Acts 17:30);
The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise
as some understand slowness.
He is patient with you,
not wanting anyone to perish
but everyone to come to repentance(2 Peter 3:9).
And now that I repent,
baptism brings the remission of sins:
There is also an antitype which now
saves us – baptism (not the removal of filth
of the flesh, but the answer of a good
conscience toward God), through the
resurrection of Jesus Christ. (1 Peter 3:21);
Then Peter said, “Repent, and let everyone
of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ
for the remission of sins; and you
shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:38)
What is repentance?
It comes from a Greek word meaning
“to get a new mind.”
Very simply,
It’s a change of mind.
Two things help all do this,
Godly sorrow – “Godly sorrow brings repentance
that leads to salvation and leaves no regret,
but worldly sorrow brings death.: (2 Corinthians 7:10)
And the goodness of God – “or do you show
contempt for the richness of His kindness,
tolerance and patience, not realizing that God’s
kindness leads you toward repentance?” (Romans 2:4)
I am a sinner.
The people reading this are sinners.
The apostle Paul wrote:
“What shall we conclude then? Are we any better?
Not at all! We have already made the charge that
Jews and Gentiles alike are all under sin. (Romans 3:9)
and Jesus said:
“I tell you, no! But unless you repent,
you too will all perish. (Luke 13:3)
I pray, Father,
that the fruit I produce is in keeping with repentance,
“Therefore, bear fruits worthy of repentance, (Matthew 3:8)
and that you send out Your laborers
into the harvest.
Then he said to His disciples,
“The harvest truly is plentiful,
but the laborers are few.
“Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to
send out the laborers into His harvest. (Matthew 9:37-38)
I ask this in Jesus’ name,
Amen.
Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty,
Who was, and is, and is to come.
