HAPPY FATHER'S DAY

PAPA’S BOX

"Papa"

James Lee Brown

On June 15, 2008, Father’s Day will once again arrive…On this day, we each will celebrate the fathers God gave to us…From this fact, I would like to pay honor to James Lee Brown, my sons' grandfather…He has been and is a profound and solid source of wisdom, comfort, and integrity in my sons’ lives…I have been divorced from Papa's son and my sons’ father for 23 years now, but my relationship with Papa remains vital and solid in each of our lives…Papa is now 87 years of age, and we are enormously blessed that he is who he is and is still with us…

From my book, Words in Bloom, I would like to share with you a poem I wrote about Papa…A few years ago; he lost his wife and was at the time of her funeral unable to attend because he was critically ill himself…He was in the hospital and on a ventilator…He became ill while her demise was in short-measure coming…During his illness, my ex-husband as he was going through his father’s things found a white envelope with some things inside…From this, I wrote “Important Things” because I understood from this event what in life is truly important…In essence, we all are blessed to have Papa as he fills a specific and special place in each of our lives...

Important Things

( Papa )

Locked inside my Papa’s box --

Hidden in his heart

Treasured time tucked away,

And sealed with Papa’s love…

Pictures of our private times,

And memories of days gone past…

No one knows the joy

My Papa knew

Each time he looked to see

Pictures in a white envelope

Marked “Important Things”…

Not only pictures did he seal,

But love abundant did he save,

As he hid away treasured moments

To look upon another day…

My Papa never told us,

But one day we finally knew

How much our papa loves us

With precious love so true…

Tears filled my eyes,

When I looked into his box,

And I realized the love

My Papa had for you and me…

It was then I knew important things

Are memories held in love,

And devotion of my Papa

For his precious ones…

Important Things

My Papa sealed

Out of sight --

Held in love --

Inside his secret box…

I give thanks to God each day

For the love I knew

Is sealed inside my Papa’s heart,

And inside my Papa’s box…

Green Fields of Dreams

May you be blessed at this time of year when Father’s Day once again is celebrated…May we each remember our fathers and pay them the honor they are due…My earthly father passed away on June 1, 1978, but he lives on with me each and every day…I too am posting here how my father comes to me in my dreams, and my connection to him lives on…This poem too is in my book Words in Bloom…My roots are Irish from my father...In this light, my father loved the green grassy hills that color the soil of the south...He would often speak of his love of the beauty of these hills...So his love of the green hills and my dreams connect me to my father to this day...

Green Fields of Dreams

( My Dad )

Boyce Dean Pittman

Across green fields I see

My father in my dreams…

Forward he comes

As if he has something to say,

But he never does --

He just keeps coming my way…

It is a comfort seeing him

In green fields of dreams --

Coming to me…

Although he speaks nothing --

It pleases my souls just to see

My dad once again --

As a reminder that he and I have been…

I look forward to my dreams,

Because it is for sure, it seems,

That now I can only see my dad

In green fields of dreams…

So I will not be sad

I will wait for sleep

And beauty in the night…

As I softly slumber

I will with my dad repeat

A visit in the green fields of dreams…©
