5 out of the last 6 years I have run the same Fatherís Day article. I didnít want to do that again this year. So I decided to just give up and write nothing. Thatís when the Lord gave me 2 different ideas for an article. This is one of them.
There are many songs out there that talk about a fatherís relationship to his children. The most recent would be Carrie Underwoodís All American Girl, in which, when the father to be finds out he will be a father, he starts imagining all the trophies his son will win, when all of a sudden, poof! All those visions disappear because heís having a daughter!
But, as the story goes on , we find that the daughter has her father ďwrapped around her finger. Sheís the center of his whole world.Ē
They donít call them ďdaddyís girlĒ for nothing! And, they donít say ďLike father, like sonĒ for nothing! Children view their relationship with their father as an example of what their relationship will be like with their Heavenly Father.
A son or daughter who is loved by their father and knows they are loved will find it easier to feel loved by their Heavenly Father.
King Solomon said in Proverbs 17:6 :
Children's children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers.
I may be taking the following Scripture out of context, but I think it fits what I am about to say here. A Godly father will rejoice when he sees his children walking in the truth of Godís Word and His love.
Itís 3 John 4:
I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
Two perfect examples of this legacy in action would be Pastor Joel Osteen, who followed in his father, John Osteenís footsteps of ministry and leading Lakewood Church and Pastor Kenneth Hagin Jr, who followed in his father, Rev. Kenneth E. Haginís footsteps of ministry. Iím sure if I took the time, I could list many, many more examples.
But, perhaps you are like me and didnít feel loved by your father for a long time, maybe you have never felt that love. I am happy to report that in the last years of his life, my father was gloriously saved and did in his last years, show me how much he loved me. But maybe you havenít had that opportunity. Maybe your father has gone into eternity and you never got the chance to feel loved by him.
Let me gently share with you what I found out, even though I did eventually feel my earthly fatherís love. Your Heavenly Father loves you unconditionally, no strings attached. You donít have to ďmeasure upĒ to gain His love and approval. If you canít spend Fatherís Day with your earthly father, let me encourage you to set aside an hour this Fatherís Day to spend with your Heavenly Father. Perhaps you might want to give Him the perfect gift this Fatherís Day if you havenít in the past. Your heart.
If you doubt the love that your Heavenly Father God has for you, can I ask you a simple favor? It will be more of a favor to you than it will be to me. Just speak to the Lord this simple request.
ďGod, Iíve been told that You love me. Iím not so sure I believe that. But I want to give You a chance to show me that You love me. Iím here, waiting for You. Come into my heart. Show me Your love. Be my Lord and Savior. Iím right here.Ē
I believe that if youíve never felt the love God, your Heavenly Father has for you, if you will make that simple request to Him, you will feel His love. He does love you. Heís waiting for your call.
Have a Happy Fatherís Day with your family, your earthly father if he is still with you, and your Heavenly Father.
