Prayer for John
I woke up all excited to share with you today
The things the Lord had shown me before the message drifts away
Happily I shared God's truth, so happy to depart
All the things I wished for you, tumbled from my heart
I never knew as I shared with you this would be our final talk
Shocked was I when you left this night and made that final walk
Away from us forever, from a home where you were truly loved.
To a place where life was free and empty promises loomed above
I can't help but think I've failed you and I hope you will hang on
To all the things I've told you, with God you can't go wrong
For I am only human, not perfect in anyway
And the only thing I have to give was the love of God this day
I'm sorry I couldn't be the Savior you needed in your heart
But I'm not fit for that job I just can't play that part
There is but one called Jesus who knows how to mend your heart
And I'll spend each night praying that he'll give you a new start
As steeped in sin and sorrow and imperfect that I am
I still want the very best for you so this is what I've planned
To talk to the Lord and ask him to reveal himself to you
Never leaving you alone again, He'll be there just for you
I'll ask for all his wisdom to be poured out into you
I'll ask that he will guide you when you don't know what to do
I'll beg him to protect you and keep you safe from harm
I'll ask him to provide his perfect peace when you fear you can't go on
I'll ask him to mold your heart and teach you to forgive
So you can be a light full of love reflecting all God's perfect gifts
I'll ask him to give you the courage to stand firm in the truth
Far above the world's reproach with nothing left to prove
