Come walk with me down the path of life.
A young man said to his girl.
They were only teens and life was sublime.
No cares to hinder their dreams in time.
She took his hand and giggled in glee.
As they started the path of unknown
Her confidence was great.
His Pride was as noble as he.
The journey left nothing to be desired.
With her hand in his, the years drifted by.
Soon a family joined their moments of bliss.
They shared joys and pains with a kiss.
Now middle age came, the children are grown,
As they set on the porch satisfied.
Still holding her hand, he points to the stars,
"They’re as bright as you eyes glistening."
Life’s journey held many things in its path.
The commitment was tested with time.
It brought sickness, some wars, and answered prayers,
They were building a love, only trust can endure.
Walk down the path of retirement with me,
Life is so short. Will you come?"
She squeezed his hand tight and smiled at him,
As she laughed, in answer to this plea, he had given.
Where else would I possible want to go,
When our journey is finally beginning to slow?
It’s just like old times. As far as I know,
I can still see all of our dreams of old.
Tell me again of that dream that you had,
When you were a girl, and I just a lad.
Did our journey fulfill all the goals in your mind?
With a nod, she replied what he’d comprehend.
My dream was achieved over and over again,
For the one dream I had was small and complete.
Just to walk by your side, through the journey of life
Meeting our years along the way, hand in hand.
