Encouragement
Joseph was the chosen one of all the brothers. It was he who brought the bad report about his brothers. It was he who had the dream, who was hated and the one entrusted with bringing back the report about his brothers. He was captured and sold as a slave. In Potiphar’s house he was the key and the source. He was entrusted and he prospered. It was he who explained the dreams though he was forgotten. We should revisit the dream and see God working in a greater vein.
You have to be like Joseph. Don’t try too much work with the few (the two prisoners). At first he tried too much with his family but later got content with the few. Work with the few and make them better. Hold your faith in what God said. Let Joseph be your inspiration. He didn’t do amazing things at first. It was later that he touched multitudes. He knew and held onto his vision. Be sure you know and understand yours and then hold it.
In trials be like Joseph. Let trials work your faith. Israel got comfortable away from home a total of 500 years and forgot that Canaan was home. Don’t forget your Promised Land. Don’t let Egypt's pleasures divert your focus of home. You have a vision and plan waiting for you. Joseph didn’t understand the magnitude of his dream because he had initially seen 13 people- his parents and brothers- submitting. Now all Egypt had to submit including the foreigners. Later it was sealed, dressed and given a chariot of command. People shouted before him, “make way/ bow down”- Dream come true.
He had the vision but had to be taught to be a servant. He had to submit whereas he thought others would submit to him. Only after prison did he get to have people submit to him except one- a higher authority. Though you get the vision learn to be submissive and humble. Joseph was given an Egyptian wife, daughter of a priest, and was given national access and freedom. Nothing happened without his word. Still though he entered into a service- he was still a servant. Under him there was prosperity and children were born to him before the famine- “Forget” and “Fruitful in the land of suffering.” During the famine he had the plan.
Joseph’s dream had to do with grain, so too was Pharaoh’s. And he was in charge/sold the grain. Grain represents food. His brothers bowed down before him. He then remembered his dreams. Situations will cause you to remember your dreams. For three days he let his brothers taste bondage and released them. On the third day he gave a charge because he feared God. One had to represent others in prison. Joseph had been distressed by the act of abuse and now it returned to haunt his brothers. Joseph didn’t allow exile to cause him to forget his language- it was his identity. Don’t let exile cause you to lose your mother tongue. Language caused him to weep.
His filled his brothers’ sacks, refunded them, provided provision and sent them back. When all the grain was gone the brothers knew to go back to that upright sheaf of grain and bow down. When he saw Benjamin his attitude changed- a meal had to be prepared at noon (Genesis 43:16). It was God and not his brothers who had brought him to Egypt. There he was sent to preserve the remnant. God made him father to Pharaoh, lord of all his entire household and ruler of Egypt. He was lord of all Egypt and his dad was to come with his entire family. He was 39 years old when he revealed himself.
He was rich and would protect his family from being destitute. He wanted his family to be near him. He had been accorded honor and his father was to be quickly brought to him. Because of Joseph his family was to be accorded the best of Egypt. He was the source of the best blessing. He was a peacemaker (Genesis 45:24). His being alive revived his father’s spirit and gave him the urge to go and see his son before he died. He was to be the intercessor for his brothers to receive Goshen. He was the one with the inside information. Joseph settled his family in the best part of Egypt and provided them with food.
Using his wisdom Joseph collected all the money in Egypt and Canaan, then the livestock, land and people. His father gave him one portion more than the others (48:22). He was the fruitful vine. Joseph remained steady though attacked because of God’s Hand. God helped and blessed him- with heavenly blessing, the blessings of the deep, of the breast and the womb. His father’s blessings were greater than the blessings of ancient mountains (ancestors). They would rest on a prince separated from his brothers. Joseph was a man of reassurance. He didn’t believe in revenge. He prophesied the Exodus and asked not to be buried in Egypt. He was embalmed and placed in a coffin not a tomb.
As a minister God has chosen you to save lives. When God wants to save the future He sends out one now. You have the vision run with it. You’re accountable for it. The vision will be accomplished. God will see you through it. But you have to be passionate about it. It is meant to save the remnant. It may look small but the mission statement is that God wants to save. That is why He says swing the sickle for the harvest is ripe. It is time to gather the grain because a famine is coming. It is time to preserve a remnant because many will die a word starvation. Make an effort to seek and serve the Lord so that all will be well with and for you. Egypt will be the place of preservation, but the Promised Land is still to come. Be faithful and true to your vision.
