It has been four months since I put this article on this site and I hope it has been a blessing to people! Since then though, I have acquired new resources and materials that I just had to add to this piece. I hope you get as much enjoyment and knowledge from them as I have!
The first new item on the list is the KJV Complete Bible on DVD Deluxe Box Set by Hendrickson Publishers. This is an awesome 3-DVD package with the Old Testament on one DVD and the New Testament on another. The great Stephen Johnston does the narration. You can listen to a specific chapter in a specific book in the Main Menu and listen to the narration while viewing the text on the screen. There are Holy Land photo tours on the DVD's and on the New Testament DVD there is a Bible Challenge N.T. Q & A game that is a lot of fun!
The third DVD in the set has a Holy Land Tour with three audio tracks. There are eight dramatized Bible stories with on-screen text and images. This DVD also has a KJV N.T. Narration MP3 format for computers with DVD-ROM drives and MP3 players. This is a really great resource to have in your collection. I got mine for under $25 bucks.
I do a lot of research on the New Age movement and Catholicism and church and Bible history, so what follows is an all be it small, but growing list of books in my collection:
"Dark Secrets of the New Age" by Texe Marrs is an excellent book. It really delves deep into the movement's corruption, scheming and Satanic attacks on Christianity. I have the Tenth Printing Edition from Crossway Books, 1988. It is an older book, but the information is still very much relative to events going on today.
"Church History in Plain Language, Updated 2nd Edition", by Bruce L. Shelley, from Thomas Nelson Publishers. This is a 520 page giant book and is truly fascinating to read. The paperback edition I have is one I got at Mardel Christian Bookstore in the bargain section for $7 bucks when it is probably a $20 to $30 book.
"Understanding Roman Catholicism-37 Roman Doctrines Explained" by Rick Jones, from Chick Publications. The Sixth Printing I have of the book came out in 1995 and has a phenomenal wealth of information. It is broken up into sections featuring a Catholic doctrine that first quotes the "Catechism of the Catholic Church" (which I also have) then compares that teaching with the Bible, exposing how Catholic doctrine IS NOT biblical in any way! It is only $10 bucks and available from Chick Publications through the web site: www.chick.com
"Catechism of the Catholic Church 2nd Edition," from Libreria Editrice Vaticana. I have the Seventeenth Printing, 2007, with a green cover in paperback. I bought special tabs that are made for the Catechism and are divided into the categories and subjects in the book and helps to easily access the subjects. I got this 904-page book at Mardel for $20 bucks. It is coming in very handy with the series of articles I am writing to expose certain Catholic doctrine.
"Did the Catholic Church give us the Bible?" by David W. Daniels, from Chick Publications. Don't read more into the title than is necessary, it is just a catchy title to grab your attention. I just got this book a few days ago and it features illustrations by the founder of Chick Publications, Jack T. Chick, who writes and draws all of the cartoon gospel tracts his company puts out. It was only $9 bucks and the Second Printing I have came out in 2005. It is 159 pages and with Jack's drawings and David's text, this is a must-have book for all Christians! In the end, this book by far proves that the Catholic Church did NOT give us the Bible!
"The Life of Matthew Henry-Biography & Commentary" by J.B. Williams, from Bridge-Logos. J.B. Williams originally wrote this in 1828, featuring Matthew's biography and Concise Commentary on the Gospels and was newly published by Bridge-Logos in 2004 as part of their Pure Gold Classics Series. Matthew Henry lived during the 1600's to early 1700's and wrote what most would consider the best-loved and accurate Concise Whole Bible Commentary that is still available to this day! I got my copy at Mardel in the bargain section for only $6 bucks.
"The New Evidence That Demands a Verdict" by Josh McDowell, from Thomas Nelson Publishers. The hardcover, 1999 edition I have compiles "Evidence Volumes I & II" and provides a massive amount of information that every believer should have in their library. The edition I own is one I got at Mardel in the bargain section for only $10 bucks.
That about does it for now. I'll continue to update this over time and I hope that everyone who reads this will check out these resources. As I acquire new items, I'll just add them to this article from the beginning.
What follows is the first edition I wrote on Christian resources back on January 3rd 2008:
I feel it is important to supply a list of Christian resources for anyone who reads this article to check out and even tell others about. I'm not trying to peddle anything here but I believe there are helps and aids that can assist in our growth in the Word.
Strong's Exhaustive KJV Concordance is a massive book that contains every word in the Bible in alphabetical order. So if there is a word in a verse that you want to find but you can't remember that verse or exactly how it goes, just flip the concordance open and find that word you know is in the verse you want to find. Let's say you want to find the verse that says, "For by grace are ye saved," and you don't know where in the New Testament it is located, but you do know it is in the N.T. So, go to where the "G's" are and find the word grace. Then scroll down the list of verses that have the word grace in them and start looking for that particular sentence, "For by grace are ye saved."
Now, let's say you remembered it is from Ephesians. So simply scroll down until you find the abbreviation for Ephesians, then carefully examine the verses listed that have the word "grace" in them. There are 12 verses in Ephesians by the way that has grace in them. But you just want the verse, "For by grace are ye saved." Just so you know, the Strong's Concordance only contains enough of the verse you need that has the word you want in it.
So "For by grace are ye saved" in the concordance is listed thusly:
Eph 2:8 by grace are ye saved through faith;
And there you go! Easy as pie. You just found the verse and the book and chapter containing the word you wanted. Trust me, your concordance next to your Bible will be the greatest resource you will have, so keep it next to your Bible at all times. And keep them both in a place where you can study efficiently too.
If you happen to be a word enthusiast like me, the Strong's Concordance (at least the one I have) has dictionaries of the Hebrew and Greek words with references to the English words in it. They come in VERY handy!
Now, another good resource is the Vine's Old and New Testament Expository Dictionary. This helps you identify the meaning of words you might have trouble with in the King James Version. It is in alphabetical order as well.
Another book that is really good is called the Rose Book of Bible Charts, Maps and Time Lines. You can find it in any Christian bookstore. Another good resource is Gail
Riplinger's New Age Bible Versions. This is a giant-sized 699 page book at exposes the false Bibles out there and the New Age movement's version of Christ. I highly recommend this book!
Foxe's Christian Martyr's Edited and Abridged Edition from Barbour Publishing, 2005 is another great resource. John Foxe chronicled the lives and martyrdom of Christians since the Apostles. His other main book, Foxe's Book of Martyrs goes a little deeper and is just as good.
Last but not least is Josephus-The Complete Works, translated by William Whiston, 1998, Thomas Nelson Publishing. Josephus was a Jewish historian, born in 30 or 33 A.D., where he lived before, during and after the tribulational horrors that Jesus foretold in Matthew 24 which befell Jerusalem, the Temple and surrounding regions at the hands of the Romans. His writings are first-hand eyewitness accounts of what happened. Get this book by all means!
I hope this list of resources will at least get you going and if you find other resources to help you then great!
Godspeed and God Bless!
"Brethren (brothers), the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen."
