“Mary had a little lamb, his fleece was white as snow and everywhere that Mary went the lamb was sure to go.” This was written by a John Roulstone and retells a true event involving a nine year old pupil at his school and a beloved pet. It isn’t just a nursery rhyme. It actually happened! But we knew that anyway….another Mary didn’t just have a lamb. She had the Lamb. The Lamb of God, who was perfect – as pure and spotless as the snow. Jesus, being fully human, went through every temptation that we go through and battled against sin like the rest of us. In the gospel of John, John the Baptist recognises Him and says to his disciples; “Look, the Lamb of God, who comes take away the sin of the world.” It is a fitting line as Jesus was sacrifised for us. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter, completely innocent and yet He did not plead for pardon. He knew His Father’s will and wanted to go through and die, for our sakes. Due to His sacrifise, we can have a relationship with God. God will never leave us, or forsake us, so “Everywhere that you go the Lamb is sure to go.”
