TEARS IN A BOTTLE by Charles Baker
"Thou tellest my wanderings, put thou tears in Thy bottle: are they not in Thy Book?"
--Psalm 56:8
I keep my tears
bottled up,
my mourning dew
trapped inside
a glass house
for all to see.
I pour my tears
out, all at once
or let them slowly ascend
into the heavens,
a rainbow of emotions.
I pray my tears,
haul them everywhere
to heaven, even--
where God sees
the transparent me.
I release my tears,
I give them away,
as God lets go
of what I've spent
a lifetime building up.
There are no tears in heaven.
