Tickle My Ears

Tickle my ears,
Oh Preacher-man!
I want my best life now!
It’s all about my plan!

My wants, my desires,
My life is purpose-driven!
But you never told me
I had to be forgiven….

You said God is love
But never once…Just
I showed up every Sunday
In you, I did trust.

You taught me finances
But said nothing of sin
How to have a good marriage
But my problem….was within.

You said it was up to me
To be a good man
I must do more good works
And get off my divan

You told lots of jokes
You really tickled my ears
Your inspirational stories
Could even bring me to tears

Your speeches were great
They really motivated me
To keep living in sin
With a false guarantee

I don’t ever remember
You talking of the cross
Preacher-man, didn’t you know
That I was lost?

You were so worried
About being seeker-friendly
So poised and polished
With a message so trendy

You were politically correct
Never spoke of His blood
That would cleanse my sin
And wash away all my mud

You cared of popularity
Of your fortune and fame
And your good reputation
You really played the game

You painted a gospel
That was all about me
And not about the One
Who could set my soul free

Although you did sometimes say
To open my heart
Repeat this prayer after me
To get a brand new start

But the word "repentance"
I never once heard you say
You didn’t like the word “sin”
It caused people to go away

Just accept Jesus you said
That’s all it takes
It won’t take two minutes
To receive amazing grace

You’re a liar Preacher-man
Because now I’m in hell!
I now know the truth
And it’s as clear as a bell

My soul is in agony
I scream and beg for relief
But none ever comes....
While I’m gnashing my teeth

The flames are never ending
This torture I cannot bear
While you go on preaching lies
Like you haven’t a care.

But your day is coming
And I promise you this
Your torture will make mine
Feel like a little flame kiss

But I can’t blame you only
For all those wasted years
Because I was the one
Who let you.....tickle my ears.

Julia, the sad thing about this is there are so many preachers who may be the one you wrote about. I hope this wakes all who read it up. God bless.

I really enjoyed reading this poem. I love how the tone changes so quickly to emphasize the seriousness of how much the American church can miss the mark and the real consequences it has on those in attendance. Fun to read, yet a serious message.

Ain't that the sad truth . A much needed message to read and heed today , Julia. Thank you for writing it in your special poetic style. To God be the glory .
