Short Stories
Kate turned her head away from the television. On the TV, the crowd continued to roar, “Yes! We can!” All the while, the senator at the podium repeated his vows to change America and then shouted out, “God Bless America.”
‘God, I am so fearful of and worried for this country. Many of these people are so arrogant and full of themselves. They assume mastery of their futures and believe that what they want is what You want for them. Then they make the audacious and irreverent petition/declaration, “God Bless America.”’
Kate felt as though she was being drawn close. Verses began to appear and recite in her mind. ‘But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. "Do not fear what they fear; do not be frightened."’ which is in 1 Peter 3:14 (NIV). ‘"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!’ which is from Luke 12:22-24 (NIV).
I Am here. These things that distress you must take place so that the glory and power of the Lord Almighty may be revealed. Remember Me and follow Me.
In Romans 11:5 the apostle Paul wrote, “So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace.” Kate knew she was a part of that remnant, and other Christians who being chosen by grace were of it, too. That didn't mean, however, the entire remnant included everyone living in America. It would be made up of Christians all over the world, Jews and grafted-in Gentiles alike. All who followed the Lord God Almighty through the Son.
He had said that Kate should remember Him and follow Him. Remember the life He had lived on the earth; remember His death on the cross; remember His resurrection from the dead; and remember His parting words before His ascension, Matthew 28:18- 20 (NIV), ‘"All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."’ To follow Him meant following Jesus Christ's example -- to love one another, to proclaim the “Good News” of redemption and salvation through the Son of God, and to make every other attempt to glorify God.
