Within the last few days, I have listened and watched the tragedy which occurred in Burma.
The Junta, have rejected all financial offers from the USA. Australia has offered 3 million dollars in aid.
Britain has done the same. They all have problems getting the essential items to those who are suffering.
Why is this happening? According to a radio statement today, here in Australia, it was explained that the Junta does not wish for the world to see how they are treating their own people.
The USA have stated this is NOT a political move, but a Humanitarian gesture to help.
In fact, a few nights ago, we saw on Australian T.V that the fresh water which was donated to the people, was given on the condition [ by the Junta} that the recipient paid four dollars for the bottle of water! In Burmese terms, this meant a week's salary!
The World Health Organization has given a very dim view of those who are still alive, by pointing out the awful sicknesses which are sure to follow!
Upon reflection, isn't this resistance familiar to Jesus? Did he not have to overcome a corrupt political system? Didn't he put his life on the line, to try to get a message to the people?
Today, the aid is there, it is visible., the suffering is there, visible also, the humanitarians are aware that if they say the wrong thing about the Junta, people will surely die.
I truly do not know the answer to this dilemma, yet, I could not help but find a parallel to Jesus' time on this earth.
Yesterday, our aid was here, He was visible, our suffering was here, visible also, the Humanitarian was aware that if He said the wrong thing, He would surely die. And He did!
Thought provoking- I am sure we all feel these sentiments; Perhaps we nee to pray the words of Isaiah 45 that God will "break down gates of bronze and cut through bars of iron" whether literal or figurative. We have seen this happen as a prophesy for some work by "Love Russia" a UK charity for orphans with special needs, particularly in "closed homes".
