Should mankind have the right to take a life
By legalistic means...or otherwise?
Should human executioners exist?
(That they do, somehow our humanness defies!)
I could not be the one the switch to pull,
Or through a trapdoor cause another's fall;
UNLESS, if by THAT hand, MY loved one fell;
My mission, THEN, could be to change it all.
I'd pull that switch, place that noose,
Or drop that cyanide pill;
The degree of MY involvement
Tends to regulate my will.
