The Powers That Be
There are three power sources that are in the world today. The definition of power is to have the ability or the strength to perform an activity or deed. In the bible the word power is sometimes used with the word authority. One can have the ability or strength but not have the authority. Jesus had both power and authority. The three power sources on earth are: God, man, and Satan. God is the ultimate power source, Who gave it to man who gave it to Satan. I like what God said to the Nation of Israel through the prophet Jeremiah.” I have made the earth, the man and the beast that are upon the ground, by My great Power and by My outstretched arm, and I give it to whom it seem right to Me“. Isn’t that an awesome statement? Jeremiah goes on to say, “ God has made the earth by His Power, He has established the world by His wisdom, and has stretched out the heavens by His understanding. God is the source of all power, the powers that be are allowed by God.

And God said,” Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth. The next power that be on the earth is man. As we can see from the word of God that mans power and authority was given to him by God. Although God gave man dominion over the earth, he lost it because of his disobedience and sin against God. When Jesus started His earthly ministry He was lead into the wilderness by the Holy Spirit to be tempted by the Devil. During one of those temptations the Devil told Jesus that if He would fall down and worship him that he would give Him all the kingdoms of the world, and all this power will I give You; for it is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. The Devil told Jesus that the kingdoms of the world had been delivered unto him. Who gave the Devil these kingdoms? Adam. When Adam sinned against God he forfeited his authority. The Devil being the next power source on earth usurped authority.

Now you have to remember that God allowed this for He is the ultimate Power source. You need to also remember that Satan is no threat to God. God knew all this was going take place before He created Adam, but He created him despite the fact that he would fail because God always has a plan. Jesus is also called the Last Adam because He makes right the things that the first Adam failed to maintain. Jesus came to earth to show humanity God and to take back the dominion that Adam lost and give it back to man. Jesus did this in the form of a man, The Word became flesh and dwelled among us, and we beheld His Glory. Jesus told the disciples, ”behold, I give you Power to tread on serpents and scorpions{ demons} and over all the Power of the enemy{ Satan}. I love what is recorded in the gospel of Luke about Jesus and his disciples, look. Then Jesus called His twelve disciples together and gave them Power and Authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.

Before Jesus returned to heaven to sit at the right of God He told the church, you and me, and all the believers. “But you shall receive Power after the Holy Ghost has come upon you“. Every believer has the Holy Ghost, every believer has the Power. Now we come to the last power source on earth. You guessed it, the Devil, or Satan. When God created the angels He created them to be powerful. They were created to serve God and man. Satan was created to be one of the three high ranking angels that God created. In the order of angels, the higher their rank, the more powerful the angel. Satan is a high ranking angel who rebelled against God. When he was in the garden of Eden before Adam sinned, he was more powerful than Adam in natural strength, But God had given Adam Authority and Satan was bound to that Authority. We know that Adam’s sinned lost his authority and Satan took over. Now that Jesus has taken back the dominion and given it back to man, Satan still has some power, the bible clearly states this. The word declares that God anointed Jesus with the Holy Ghost and Power; Who went about doing good, healing all that were oppressed and dominated by the devil. When Jesus walked the earth there were people oppressed and dominated by the devil, that’s power.

When Jesus called Saul of Tarsus {Paul} to ministry, He told Him; “ I have appeared to you for this purpose, to make you a minister and witness, I will deliver you from the people, and from the Gentiles, to whom I now send you, to open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God. Jesus told Paul that through his ministry people would be delivered from the power of Satan. Jesus has just said that Satan has power. The word of God records.” But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost; in whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of them which believe not, least the light of the glorious gospel of Christ should shine unto them." Look at this in the word.God has delivered us from the power of darkness{Satan}and has translated us into the kingdom of God. It took the power of God save all sinners out of the hand of Satan. Satan has no power over the Saints of God, but he continue to wreck havoc in the lives of the unsaved.
