The Deep Things of God
The Deep Things of God
The apostle Paul said, "But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God...." 1Corinthians 2:9-10
Sometimes when studying the Bible there are "things" that just seem to jump out at us (truths in God's Word) that you have not noticed or understood before, and now they are crystal clear! I have found those “things” are always exactly what I needed at that particular time. We say to ourselves, "how did I not see that before?" Maybe, because it just wasn’t the time you needed it. This is God’s Holy Spirit giving the increase. The more we study His word, the more He increases our knowledge and understanding. This also demonstrates that "the natural man recieveth NOT the "things" of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” 1 Corinthians 2:14
There is a fire in God’s Word that can touch our hearts at just the right time with just the right words. There is so much in this love letter God has given us called the Bible. If we read it cover to cover a hundred times over, we would still discover new “treasures’ that we’d never seen before on the 101st reading. Do you realize at those times when the words literally seem to jump off the page that God Himself is speaking directly to you? His Holy Word is a personal love letter just for you. He is revealing Himself to you through His Spirit, by His Word.
When we ask the Spirit to direct us in reading the Word, we gain so much more understanding than if just sitting down to read on our own. You can be the smartest theologian in the world and have all the head knowledge of the Bible but if you don’t have love for God and His Spirit directing you into “heart” knowledge it will do you no good. You won’t “get it.” You have to truly love God as the verse above says or be a genuine truth-seeker. I believe this is why there are so many misunderstandings and misinterpretations of the Bible. When man tries to interpret on his own, he fails to grasp the full understanding. Man will never know the “deep’ things of God without His Spirit as the guide. This book is alive! It is God-breathed! But you cannot experience that life unless you receive it by His Spirit. The natural man cannot “get it” because it is foolishness to him.
But unto the child of God it is the deep things of God…the mystery of His love for us which comes alive. We can never know the full extent of His love this side of heaven but He reveals much to us if we are willing, by faith and His Spirit to receive it.
Ephesians 3: 16-19 says….That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
Fill yourself up today with God’s love letter to you....there is life in that book.
