This morning I read the words of Jesus
Longing to know of his power and his love.
“If we believe, God will do all things for us?”
Anxious and needy my prayer rose above.
Nothing with God shall e’er be quixotic
Request what you will, His power will ne’er fail.
Fevers are banished, by his word, with a flick.
Blind eyes are opened, demons fly by the tail.
Now…
If these things happened at the sayings of Jesus,
Why can they not happen to you and to me?
Some say that they happened in those past ages,
Till we had something perfect, and better, you see.
Is it better to be sick, or better to be better?
Is it better to be blind, and unable to see?
Is it better to be crippled, unable to walk?
Or to praise like the birds, delightfully free?
This morning I read the words of Jesus
And decided it better to believe all he said.
“Repent,” said he, “The kingdom of Heaven’s at hand.
The finger of God’s brought it down to earth’s bed.”
It would take too much time to tell of it all:
The things that I read, and the things that I saw.
So each morning I’ll read the words of Jesus,
And see the delights through Heaven’s opened door.
