A trickle of dispirited young folk were trudging through the streets of Jerusalem Asher and David watched them. Then on an impulse David ran out and shouted, "Where are you going!" One of them said, "I'm going home, I've had enough of this."David shouted, "Enough? Enough? I'll tell you what's enough. For two thousand years the @@ goyim have had their way with Jews. And that is enough. If you don't get back in the line all the goyim will say all Jews are cowards. " Then David said, "And you want to talk about 'going home'? This is your only home. All your families are here behind you. All your parents, your sisters, your girlfriends. The Arabs have come to kill them and plunder them. They might just do that. But if they do you all better be dead and there better be three Arabs lying beside each one of you."They turned in reinspired resolve and went back following David. Asher came up to him and grinned, "You do that rather well. But technically you're not their commander." David said, "Well the Hagganah is still a democratic army. No protocal. Two Hagganah soldiers, three plans and all that." Asher said, "You do know some of the girlfriends you mentioned are up here don't you?"David replied, "Don't ruin a good speech."Asher then said, "I wonder what they would think if they knew you were one of the '@@ goyim' as you so eloquently put it."David replied, "Why should we tell them?"
