Calmly and Rationally-1941

The Long Range Desert Group commandos were waiting to take Asher and David across the desert. The Captain treated the patrol to a dinner at Shepherd's Hotel, of steak and lobster. Asher said, "Uh, Captain may I have something else?" The Captain said, "Why."Asher said, "Well it's the meat sir, it hasn't been prepared right, and the lobster, and the butter sause." The Captain said "What do you mean by that." Then he said, "Ah...., They could have told us about that you know." Asher said, "Don't worry, someone else can have my meal, and I'll pay for my own."

One trooper said, "Well at least you're not like the rest of those pasty-faced cowards who let us do their fighting for them..."Asher replied, "Uh, Captain?"The Captain said, "Private, I always told you that mouth would get you into trouble."Asher said, "Oh that's OK, Captain; I only wish to go outside and discuss the matter with him calmly and rationally.""Fine", said the Captain,"Sergeant, take these two outside so they can discuss the matter 'calmly and rationally'. See that every thing is Fair Play and all."

Before the pair walked out, David walked toward them and whispered something in Asher's ear. Asher nodded. Then David said, "Five pounds on my friend. "The Captain said, "Well, I can't let a challenge like that go. Very well. By the way, what was it you told him?" David replied, "I told him there was a scar on the right side of your friend's nose. My friend prefers to hit backhand-says the other way hurts his knuckles. You want to call it off, Captain?""Not I", said the Captain, "A gentleman never goes back on a wager."

A few minutes later Asher walked in. The sergeant followed behind. The sergeant said, "I left him outside the door-his nose was bleeding and I didn't want to stain the nice carpet. "The Captain gave David five pounds. David gave them to Asher and said, "That should pay for your meal." The Captain said, "Well, I guess that's settled." Asher replied, "Calmly and Rationally."
