Every now and then we hear famous political leaders from various parts of the world talk about bridging the gap between the rich and the poor.
Everyone seems to love the idea of “helping the world” or should I say “helping the poor”. They want to see a world with no poor person ravaging through the piles of junk, no more crying babies in Africa with a stomach that’s full of nothing but air.
Now a days anyone who stands for this cause is looked upon as a hero or as a good and honorable person .
My question is, is it really possible to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor.
You have to understand being rich is an identity, and being poor is also an identity. They are both terms used to describe or refer to a specific person or group. It’s just like a name or nationality.
If you make all the Nigerians leave their country and take on a Liberian citizenship, have a bridged the gap between Nigerians and Liberians ?
If you make a poor man rich you didn’t bridge the gap between his past state (poverty) and his present (wealthy). You only made him cross over from one side of the fence to the other (from the poor side to the rich side, but the fence and the same gap or division still remains).
Since the way people say they are going the bridge the gap between the rich and the poor is either by increasing the finances of the poor or decreasing the finances of the rich, it means that bridging the gap between the rich and the poor cannot be done.
Common’ Now, Reason with me. If you increase the finances of the poor man you are making him rich and when he is rich he is now distant from the poor because the other poor people are where they are.
Also on the issue of making all poor people in the world rich ( aka the quest to bridge the gap), you have to understand that poverty is a choice. Someone can choose to be poor even though they do not want to be poor. { Yelp, and I didn’t make any mistake in that last sentence }
Those folks are the kind of people who want to enjoy the harvest without being involved in the labour that produces the harvest.
You have to understand every poor person is poor because of something they do or something they don’t do. { Notice I didn’t use the word “Did” }
Poor people have habits that are keeping them poor, example: saying things like; “I am a nobody”, “I should give up”, “Life is hard”, “I can’t afford it” (instead of saying how can I afford it) … and a bunch of other junk.
Rich people have habits that keep them rich, but mostly increase their finances example: reading financial newspapers & books ( not spending 10 or more minutes reading a sports magazine with details on how a celebrity athletic is doing his thing, which is read by someone who is not doing anything what reading about { poor people read and receive the news but rich people make and are the news} ), rich people speak words of hope & faith …. and a bunch of other beautiful stuff.
One thing that every politician out there should know is that you cannot bridge the gap between the rich and the poor. The rich would keep getting richer and the poor would keep getting poorer. That’s the way it always has been and that’s the way it always would be. It’s a law. The bible tells us “the rich ruleth over the poor” { it doesn’t get any realer than that }
Remember making all poor people rich would require making all poor people around the world change their habits; do and say the right things.
Due to freedom of will which we all love and support ( even though all acts of murder are an expression of freedom of will ), that task cannot be fulfilled – You can’t force poor people to do what they don’t want to do.
By the way just for the record; my definition of a rich man also paints the picture of a man whose wealth cannot be taken from him. In other words even if you freeze his bank account he would set up a bigger one tomorrow ( as in later ) from nothing because he knows the secret of how to be a success financially.
