Father, I Cannot Pray Today
Dear Father,
I cannot pray today. I want to, but it is too hard. My heart is overwhelmed with feelings that have cascaded over me. I feel smothered beneath the waves of emotion and I flail with what strength I have, trying to rise to the top of each wave, to no avail.
I read your Word today and saw how you performed miracles and healed the broken and maimed. Today, I feel my very life is broken and maimed, but I have felt your healing touch so often in the past.
Why do these things rage again, drowning me in the depths, where I can almost reach safety, but it eludes my grasp. I am pulled down, drowning in sorrow, yet desperate for air, my lungs bursting. I am so weak, there is nothing I can do, but drown in these feelings, I cannot breathe.
I cannot pray today, but you knew that, and Jesus prayed for me. You pull me from the depths, from the suffocating waves of feelings that have enveloped me, and you pull me free from their grasp. I burst through from beneath the waves; I can breathe again. I feel the sun beating down on my face and know it is you who has delivered me. It is you, who has lifted me from the depths. It is you, who set me on the Rock, and kept me safe.
You keep me in the shadows of your wings. There is no other place to go. No other place I want to go.
Thank you for hearing my prayer.
