Consternation, disbelief, fear
The empty tomb revealed
The Absent One – not there
The stone no longer sealed
The crypt of the Afflicted One;
It should have been a shield,
Now rolled away to expose
Raiment on the ground lying
The women in dismay crying
“Tell me where you have laid him.”
The emptiness of heart
Quickens to a start
The resplendent angel assuages
Perplexity and doubt
To find their Master gone
What does it signify?
Who can answer why
Good Friday grief
Now resurrects disbelief.
Who has stolen their precious Lord?
They just need to hear the Word
Of comfort and of love
Restoring hope from above
Merciless the inflicted pain;
His affliction was our gain
On either side of Him a thief
Punishment for our sins – good grief!
For us to live, he had to die
“It is finished.” was His cry.
