"Don't grieve God. Don't break his heart. His Holy Spirit, moving and breathing in you, is the most intimate part of your life, making you fit for himself. Don't take such a gift for granted." Ephesians 4:30 (The Message)
Everyday, Monday through Friday, I drive the same path to work. The tin-covered building identifies itself with bright red letters reading Macon Chronicle-Herald. It was a Tuesday morning and I drove up. I grabbed my purse and my cup of coffee and then clocked in. I say Good Morning to my co-worker Shauney. I sit down at my desk and gently wake up my sleeping Mac. My sweet babies Avery and Ryan smile at me from my desktop. Every Tuesday is Comic day. I have to go to the website where I can download all the Comics for the following week. I normally click all the download links and then go onto something else waiting for them to download. Normally it takes quite awhile. As I click on each link my web download folder is suddenly full of comics. It wasn't taking near as long for me to download my comics. Then I remembered that we were upgrading our internet connection at work. I could not believe the difference. The better connection was amazing. This was going to make my download day a lot easier. A better connection had completely changed my normal routine.
As we go through our daily walk as Christians, I wonder if we ever consider our connection with the Holy Spirit. Have we become so accustomed to our routine that we are unaware that we could access a better connection? Are we really aware that God dwells directly within us in the form of the Holy Spirit?
"And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever-- the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you." John 14:16, 17
BUT YOU KNOW HIM, for He lives WITH you and will be IN you. Wow! Ok let me say that one more time - Wow! Do you really know Him or is the Holy Spirit just a concept in your life?
When you go sign up for the internet they have several connection speeds to choose from. I think the same is true when we deal with the Holy Spirit in our Christian lives. Some of us just have dial-up. It is a slow connection and many times we get really frustrated because along with the slowness we get kicked off a lot. We get plugged in and we start getting into God's Word and His will and His way and then suddenly the cares of the world kick us off track. Our connection was just not strong enough. We need less of self and way more God.
I personally had fallen into the trap of thinking that my connection speed was just fine. It was what I was used to. It was routine. I accepted that the Holy Spirit was within me, and could help me but it was more of a concept I knew in my head but not a reality I embraced in my heart. It wasn't until recently that I realized just how out-dated my connection speed was. The voice of truth had been whispering within me for a better connection for some time but I couldn't hear it. There were too many distractions. I had to rid myself of my routine and life's distractions before I heard the voice. It was only then that I realized the powerful connection I was missing out on.
Sadly, some have not even plugged in at all. It is like signing up for an internet plan but never hooking up your cable/line to your computer. The plan was purchased, you have what you need to get the internet, but you never hooked up the connection. It is just there waiting - waiting for you to plug into it. The plan was purchased by the blood of Jesus Christ. Before Jesus left He sent us a helper to be the voice of truth as we lived in a fallen world. The voice speaks to us through God's Word to help us through our struggles. Jesus never intended for us to try to do it ourselves - because He knew that we would fail. That was the point of sending the Holy Spirit.
So my question today is this....What is your connection speed? How aware are you of the Holy Spirit within you? Are you tapping into the power Jesus intended for you to have? I encourage you to do a study on the Holy Spirit. Let God's Words help you understand and know the Holy Spirit living within you. I believe a better connection is key from a normal routine Christian walk to a Dynamic One.

This devo really made me dig deep to think. Extremely well laid out, just long enough, just personal enough. It is also applicable to our "plugged in" society. Well done.
This is such a great analogy, one that everyone can relate to, and the message is right on. Thanks for making me think.
