Quietly I looked at his face and I cried
Knowing that this man had just died
His body hung motionless from the cross
I didn’t know this death bore a great cost.
At the time I was only eight years old
I was witnessing the greatest story ever told
I turned to my mother and asked her why
With tears in her eyes she watched him die.
Earlier the man looked to the sky to pray
I stood close enough to hear him say
“My Father, why have you forsaken me”
“If this is your will then this shall it be.”
He prayed to his father but still he died
He said he was God’s son but had he lied
I was confused with many questions in my head
But no one could tell me why this man was dead.
They buried the man in a mountain cave
And rolled a big stone to seal the grave
Suddenly dark clouds filled the skies
It rained on the grave where a dead man lies.
On the third day the sun lit up the skies
Word reached my ears that a dead man did rise
I ran back to the grave to see with my eyes
I had to see for myself and not hear ignorant lies.
I arrived at the grave at the break of dawn
The stone was rolled away the dead man was gone
I had seen a lot in the past three days
Hearing the rest of the story I was totally amazed.
It is a miracle that a man could rise from the dead
As I grew older my questions turned to faith instead
The more I learned about the story of Christ
I now know how his death has effected my life.
His death allowed all my sins to be set free
And that God has mercifully forgiven me
God gave his only son to die on the cross
Jesus suffered so souls wouldn’t be lost.
What I was seeing was a sample of God’s will
A beginning of the promises God will fulfill
Because of the love God has for you and me
God wanted you and I a life of eternity.
