His Death My Peace

His Death - My Peace

Illegal trial; though silent He remained.

And in that silence brave they were

and spat, and called Him names.

A blindfold placed upon Him –

they struck Him with their hands,

“If you’re the Christ, who strikes you –

Can’t you tell?”

and through the street, they led Him,

and mocked Him when He fell.

The place of death they came at last

the air was filled with sickening thuds

as nails ripped into flesh

and crucified they Him that day,

The Prince of Peace – a lamb in death.

The skies grew dark; the earth did quake,

and curtain rend from top to base,

with shoulders, hearts and spirits bowed,

they lay Him in a guarded tomb and left

to hide away and grieve.

forget did they the promise given

that three days hence would bring

Messiah, Jesus, Saviour the resurrected King.

Before the light; before the dawn

with heart and soul near death

did Mary come to weep,

and what she saw – the empty tomb

brought pain afresh and fear

till voice so sweet and tender –

the One she knew full well

said but one word; her name He spoke

to cause her heart to swell in rapture sweet

with love and joy o’ flowed ran she to tell

the others the glorious gladsome news

Rejoice! Rejoice! Oh, hearts take flight

let glad Hosannas ring,

the Lord is living – risen

No more can death defeat us,

No more can sin hold sway

Oh, sing my soul, rejoice and shout

For now, He’s unbound Heaven’s gates

the way to God made free,

to live and love and walk with Him

for now, my Saviour, Lord and King,

is mine, for all eternity.

This excellently written poem has such rich meaning. Keep writing.

You really did a superb job of telling the whole story. Some only focus on the death, and others only on the resurrection. You focused on the entire sacrifice that Jesus made as well as the happy ending. Praise God that we are no longer dead...we are new creations in Christ.
Connie Allen 21 Mar 2008
I LIKED THIS. We all know Jesus is alive, risen from the dead, but I think we also need to be reminded of the pain, suffering and sacrifice he went through to redeem us all. Looking at all that was happening at that time, I am sure the diciples, Mary and all the others felt it was all over, and for nothing. BUT GOD raised him from the grave so each of us could have him living inside us. GOD BLESS YOU...GOD's PLANS ARE BEST.
