Asher said, "Brrr, do we have to do this?" Lord Wilberford said, "Don't worry they probably feel the same" David quipped, "Did we remember our Holy Water and our silver bullets?" Asher replied, "No but I think we can get a mirror somewhere. And we're meeting in an Istanbul bazaar where there's more then enough garlic." They walked to the meeting spot and sat down at a table. A man walked up. They exchanged call signs. Then Asher said, "Call me officer X and my friend, Officer Y. We are from a reactionary movement designed to enslave the working class in archaic superstition. My other friend here(he pointed to Wilberford) is a minion of a system of Imperialist exploiters. I presume you are a representative of the godless bolshevic conspiracy to plunge the world into darkness." The man replied, "I am here in the interest of the Soviet Socialist Republics and I do not appreciate the levity. I was instructed to come and seek for cooperation against the fascist menace." Asher and David both a laughed to themselves, just quietly enough to hide it from the Russian. Then Asher gave a start. "Oh my...he can't make jokes can he-someone might be listening," he thought. "For that matter, for all he knows we might be lure him into saying something untoward so we can take advantage. It must be odd living where even making jokes is a crime."Then Lord Wilberford said, "I presume you have something to tell us."The Russian replied, "Agent Thomson is working for us. You will doubtless want to hear this for future reference." Lord Wilberford said slowly, "I thank you for your information. Then he handed him an envelope."Asher looked at the Russian with a shock. Then he stiffled himself. The negotiations went on. Then the Russian agent said, "This has been a most fruitful meeting. I hope to meet youagain."After they broke off they each, went in separate directions, tracing a convuluted path throughthe streets occasionally making a furtive look behind them.Asher, David, and Wilberford met at a rendevous.Asher said, "That snake...how could he do that to his own man?"Wilberford replied, "Distasteful, but hardly unknown."Asher said, "He didn't seem to feel a thing." David said, "To be fair, we don't know he didn't regret it, but still, how far can people go?" Asher said, "So this is our new ally. I wonder who will get the better of the deal."David said, "Don't worry, there was 'plenty of garlic' around."Asher said, "Yes but next time, bring the Holy Water."

The Communists were perfecty capable of such things. In the earlier non-aggression pact with Hitler, they aggreed to abandon German Communists as sacrificial lambs to seal the deal. To be fair they weren't the only ones that behaved like that but they may have been the most comfortable at doing so.
