Peace is the third most important fruit of the Spirit of God that enables the believers to remain united to the Lord even in the times of adversity, persecution, trials, temptations, sorrows, life-threatening situations and even at the period of an believer’s death.
It is the Lord Almighty himself along with the prophets of the Old Testament and the angels that proclaimed the coming of Messiah and Saviour- Jesus Christ-The One who shall become mediator between men & God to end the hostile relationship and separation because of the Sin, the one who shall abolish the Law and establish new covenant by his blood in which people will be justified before God by having faith in him, the one through whom God will bring whole universe back to himself, the one through whose death on the cross God will make peace and so bring back to himself all things both on earth and in heaven, the one who will break apart the middle wall of partition, the one whose name shall be Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. The increase of whose government and peace there shall be no end.
It’s the peace that Christ has promised to His believers which is not based upon materialistic blessing or of any worldly pleasures, for in the world there’s no peace at all- for the true peace is not in the abundance of a man’s worldly possessions and luxurious life-style for it cannot satisfy the need of the soul but only brings sense of satisfaction in one’s mind. True peace is restored and blessed in the hearts of those who believes in Christ Jesus and invites him into their heart and life as their personal Lord & Saviour. When our sins are forgiven in Christ Jesus we are assured that we have peace with God for Christ has become mediator between us and have become peace-offering for us through his physical death on the cross, so that we can be presented Holy, Pure and faultless into God’s presence.
When we have Peace with God, we shall also have peace from within ourselves and the peace of God enable us to live in harmony with fellow church members, people outside the church and even with those who are our enemies. Peace of God doesn’t only bless us spiritually but it also blesses our physical and mental state for when we have peace of God it gives an assurance to us that no matter whatever situation we shall pass through, we shall not be moved by them, for the Lord our God has become our strength and salvation- For Christ Jesus the one who is Prince of Peace is the Lord of our Life and He is in control of entire universe and every situation, circumstances, decisions and every day of our lives, for our days are ordained in his books before they come to pass in our lives.
Peace of God helps us to become patient, hopeful, enduring and humble just as Christ is- for when Christ was betrayed, despised, mocked, flogged, falsely accused, persecuted and killed on the cross of Calvary, He did not panic neither He became fearful for He knew that what ever pain and suffering he was going through, it was in the plan and purpose of the Almighty and God was in total control of the situation and that He was in the will of God as He silently endured the persecutions for He had trusted Himself and His Spirit in the hands of the Father –the righteous Judge.
Christ has promised us the peace which assures us of our salvation, our faith in God that in all things He works together for good for us for we love him and are called according to his purposes, Christ has become the High-Priest of our faith and that through His own blood he has purchased, redeemed and saved us from condemnation, judgment, wrath and death because of the sins. We have part in the first resurrection that the Lord our God has promised unto us through Him, we have our citizenship in heaven and have promise of ever-lasting life.
When we are being blessed by the fruit of Peace our preferences, decisions, attitude & behavior towards life and relationships in general as well as with the fellow Christians change drastically irrespective of problems, issues and difficulties we encounter in day today Christian life.
The Peace of God: is the gift of God, Abundant, Perfect, Like a River, Legacy of Christ, Passeth Understanding which fills our heart with calmness and does not let it get troubled nor afraid. It makes us dwell in safety of the Lord Almighty. It gives light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death. It helps and blesses us to have fellowship with the Lord by Praise, Worship, Thanksgiving, Prayers and meditating upon the word of God. It leads us in the oneness of body. Helps us to depart from evil and motivates us to do good.
Friends if we will have peace with God through forgiveness of our sins in Christ Jesus, we shall also have peaceful relations with ourselves, with our families, relatives, friends, body of Christ and even with our enemies.
Bible declares, “ Do your best to preserve the unity which the Spirit gives by means of the peace that binds you together.” For blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the Children of God.
