'We Walk By Faith...And Not By Sight'

My favorite person (and best friend) on this earth is my wife of 55 years, La Moyne.

Four weeks ago this coming Sunday, she suffered a heart attack.
I've never seen her sicker...not even with the 30 yrs. of Lupus flares!

I called 911 and for the next 8 days she was in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Norman Hospital here.
(La Moyne shared some of this in the March 5th article 'Thankful To Be Back'...
if you would like to go back and read that one).

Next to Christ, my favorite is Faith and 'my Moyne' is a living example of 'Living by Faith'.
Here are some thoughts on Faith that I gleaned during this difficult time in our life.

1) "We walk by faith and not by sight" (II Cor. 5:7)
La Moyne's collapse was met with God's capable Presence and Power.
If we had 'walked by sight', we would have felt that all was lost, but we walked by faith and God led the way, saw us through and has graciously granted La Moyne more time on earth. How we praise and thank Him for that.

2) One of the greatest thoughts on Faith is Ephesians 2:8-9:
"For by grace through faith are you saved and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God".
I tho't of the Old Testament emphasis,"The battle is not your's, it is the Lord's".

I also thought of an old hymn 'No Never Alone' which was my Mother-in law's favorite.

"I've seen the lightning flashing, I've heard the thunder roll.
I've felt sin's breakers dashing, which almost conquered my soul.
I've heard the voice of my Saviour, bidding me still to fight on.
He promised never to leave me, never to leave me alone!!

Chorus:
No, never alone, no never alone.
He promised never to leave me,
He'll claim me for His own;
No, never alone, no never alone.
He promised never to leave me,
Never to leave me alone.

The world's fierce winds are blowing, temptation sharp and keen.
I have a piece in knowing my Saviour stands between,
He stands to shield me from danger, when my friends are all gone and away from me.
He promised never to leave me, never to leave me alone!!

When in affliction's valley I tread the road of care.
My Saviour helps me carry the Cross so heavy to bear...
Though all around me is darkness, Earthly joys all flown...
My Saviour whispers His promise, Never to leave me alone!!

He died on Calvary's mountain, for me they pierced His side.
For me He opened that fountain, the crimson, cleansing tide.
For me He waiteth in Glory, seated upon His throne.
He promised never to leave me, never to leave me alone!"
~Authors: Ludie D. Pickett and Fred Jacky (1897)
"For He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee." (Hebrews 13:5).

While in the Army, we sang a chorus 'Got Any Rivers?' at Bethany Baptist Church in Colorado Springs where La Moyne and I worshipped.

"Got any rivers that seem to be un-crossable?
Got any mountains you can not tunnel through?
God specializes in things that seem impossible...
He knows a thousand ways to make a way for you!
Let go and let God have His way. Let go and let God have His way.
Your burdens will vanish, your night turn to day.
Let go and let God have His way!"

3) What does God expect from us and our Faith?
~ Stay in TOUCH with God.
~ Keep your life in TUNE with God through Prayer and Scriptures.
~ Keep your eyes on THE TARGET that God sets before you.
~ TRUST God and keep going.
~ Be TRUTHFUL in Prayer and tell God 'like it is'.
~ Be TRIUMPHANT in life and in death.
~ Be TRUSTWORTHY in Discipleship.

4) God-given Faith and Scriptures:
sees the invisible...
believes the incredible...
and receives the impossible.

5) Hebrews 11 is the 'Hall of Faith' and those Pioneers of Faith had:
Worshipping Faith (Able vs. 4)
Walking Faith (Enoch vs. 5-6)
Working Faith (Noah vs. 7)
Willing Faith sees the impossible (Sarah and Abraham vs. 8-19)
Waiting Faith (Several Saints vs. 20-22)
Warring Faith (Moses vs. 23-29)
Winning Faith (Several Saints vs. 30-31)
Witnessing Faith (Several Saints vs. 32-40)

CONCLUSION:
"True Faith drops it's letter in God's mailbox and lets go of it."

"Prayer is the key to Heaven, but Faith unlocks the door."

"True Faith counts on God and believes even BEFORE it sees!"

"God did not take Paul's thorn away (II Cor. 12:8-10)....
He did something better as He mastered that thorn and made it Paul's servant.
The Ministry of Thorns has always been a greater ministry than a Ministry of Thrones."

This poem (by an unknown author) helped me and hopefully it will help you.
"Faith is holding on to life
When all around is pain.
Faith is seeing rainbows
When the sky is full of rain.

Faith is reaching out to GOD
When you are filled with fear.
Faith is taking someone's hand
And feeling GOD is near.

Faith is walking in the dark...
And looking for the light.
Faith is knowing GOD is love,
And trusting in His might.

Faith is showing you believe
And that you truly care.
Faith is searching for the LORD
And finding Him in Prayer."

The evening after I wrote this paper, I needed confirmation that it was God's Will for me to continue in that direction. The TV was on and as I passed by I heard someone say....
"We are to live by faith and not by sight".

I realized that I had not read the devotional from 'Streams in the Desert' for March 10. The Scripture was "The just shall live by Faith" (Heb. 10:38).

La Moyne had written her name in the margin on March 8, 1977.
The portion she marked reads:
"You have looked for me in the world of sense, but all the while I have been waiting for thee; meet me in the inner chamber of your spirit for I am there."

Even so Lord, let it be~

Thank you once again Travis and La moyne for this wonderful Spirit filled article on faith. I had the same experience that La moyne had a short time ago as well. I had to call 911 also and they came and took my husband to the hosp. where he stayed eight days in ICU and then they transferred him to Mercy in Sac. where they installed a new defibrillator/pacemaker in him. We too have had to walk by faith, but as you know our God is very faithful. Love to you both, Sharon
