I went there today
And saw the stone freshly put
Now with both your names upon it;
It was so still
With scarce a breath of air to stir the branches;
Everywhere were daffodils and primroses,
Hedgerows alive with singing birds;
So clearly their notes rang in the still air,
It would have made you happy.
I thought of what we might have done today
This special day-
Gone for a drive, had a cup of tea,
Sat and watched the ducks on the water,
The waves breaking on the sand,
Simple things
Now all gone but not forgotten
Forever they will be
Engraved deep in my heart
These thoughts of you.

Lovely and touching, with just the right degree of mournfulness. My mother has been gone since I was 7, so I can definitely relate. Very moving piece - thanks for sharing.
