The Real Secret
By Rod Nichols (Rod@Nichols.com)

I recently watched a DVD titled The Secret and then saw both Oprah shows that talked about the DVD. I believe that The Secret is a deliberate attempt by Satan to deceive even the elect, however it is not the first, won’t be the last, and is completely expected during these final days.

2nd Peter 2:1-3 (NIV) reads: “But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.”

This perfectly describes The Secret:

1) Secretly introducing destructive heresies.
2) Denying the sovereign Lord who bought them.
3) Many will follow their shameful ways.
4) They bring the way of truth into disrepute.
5) They’ve created this out of greed.
6) They are exploiting people with stories they have made up.

Fortunately, they are under God’s condemnation and I believe it will come to swift destruction, as we saw with the Davinci Code movie, which bombed. Something will happen to bring down The Secret.

Here are some of the destructive heresies I see in The Secret:

“One infinite power – the universe.”

This denies God as the infinite power. The universe is just a place, God is the creator of the universe.

“There is only one powerful spiritual law – the law of attraction.”

This denies the laws of sin and death and spirit of life in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:2). It also denies the law of sowing and reaping (2 Corinthians 9:6).

“Your thoughts mold your reality and the universe.”

This denies the possibility that God has a plan and purpose for each life (Jeremiah 29:11).

“The universe is like a genie – your wish is my command. When you ask of the genie, the universe must respond.”

This again denies that there is a God.

“You get what you feel. Figure out what will generate good feelings and do it.”

This means I can do whatever feels good, so if raping women, molesting children, and killing people feels good, then I should do it. If taking drugs or drinking alcohol makes me feel good, I should do it. If gambling makes me feel good, I should do it. If homosexuality makes me feel good, I should do it. If sex out of wedlock makes me feel good, I should do it. This leads to a lawless world and denies that there is any right or wrong or clear truth.

“Declare how much money you’d like to make and the universe will respond.”

Satan will give a person more money than they can handle and it will destroy them (studies of lottery winners show that most of them end up penniless or deeply in debt or examine the lives of wealthy people and you’ll find that most are not happy). God will not give His children more money than they can handle (Parable of the Talents in Matthew 25).

“We are creators of our own universe – every wish will manifest.”

This basically says that we are God, which denies God.

“What people want – happiness. Go for it and everything else will appear.”

Happiness is fleeting. People are always seeking happiness in money, material things, relationships, sex, drugs, alcohol, gambling, etc., but the things of the world only bring temporary happiness. What people really need is the joy of the Lord, which can only be found by accepting Jesus as their Savior and giving their life over to Him as Lord.

“What we think of as God, is just energy.”

This is denying that God is a being and that is a destructive heresie!

“Each person is source energy, an eternal being; that which you call God, a god force.”

Again, this is saying that we are God and that’s what Satan has been saying since he deceived Eve in the garden.

“There is no blackboard in the sky where God has written your purpose – it doesn’t exist. You’re purpose is what you say it is. Your mission is the one you give yourself. Your life will be as you create it and no one will stand in judgment of it now or ever!”

This one is really scary!!! God does have a purpose for each and every person on earth and everyone will stand in judgment one day. (Romans 8:28, 2 Corinthians 5:5, Philippians 2:13, Matthew 12:36, Romans 2:2, Romans 14:12, 1 Peter 4:5)

“You are here (on earth) because of your powerful and deliberate wanting to be here.”

This again denies God had anything to do with your birth. God forms each of us in our mother’s womb (Jeremiah 1:5).

It’s interesting that the primary deception in The Secret is that if you gain this knowledge you will be like God or you will be God – that was Satan’s original deception in the garden of Eden and since he has no originality, it continues to be his primary deception; he just repackages it.

Okay, so if The Secret isn’t really the secret, what is?

The Real Secret:

God created earth so that He could bring the Kingdom of Heaven, which is spiritual, into a physical plane. He created mankind in His image (spiritual beings in physical bodies) and in His class (God class) to rule in this new Kingdom. We were made to be rulers - kings, not slaves to sin. Not slaves to debt or a job or even a business. Not slaves to illness, disease, or depression.

The real secret is that when we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior, we are born again (spiritual re-birth) and receive the Holy Spirit who lives inside our spirits and is our direct communication line to God. That’s where the power comes from. It’s not us – it’s God working through us.

Even Jesus, the Son of God, said that He did nothing except what he first saw the Father do and said nothing except what he first heard the Father say. Jesus did nothing by his own power – everything was accomplished through the Holy Spirit – the healings, resurrections, walking on water, feeding the 5000, water to wine, etc.

Then in John 14:12 Jesus said: “I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.” Jesus said that we would do even greater things than he has done, because the Holy Spirit would be sent to live in us and work through us.

If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior (redemption of your sin), then the all powerful, all knowing God lives in you!

He is the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End.

He has seen every moment of every day in your entire life.

He knew you before you were conceived in your Mother’s womb.
He has counted every hair on your head.

He knows everything about you – everything you’ve ever done and will do.

The really cool part is that He loves you and wants to be a bigger part of your life – your relationships, health, finances, and so on. No circumstance or situation is too small or too big for God.

God has a plan for each and every person born on this earth and it’s revealed in Jeremiah 29:11 which says: “I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

That word prosper means to be complete, not lacking anything. It means that God’s plan is for us to be completely healthy, have great relationships, never struggle with depression, have abundant finances, and be filled with joy.

Since The Secret DVD talks so much about finances, let’s look at what the Bible says: Deuteronomy 8:18 reads “But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your forefathers, as it is today.”

God has a plan to prosper you in every area of your life, which includes finances. He has already given you the ability to produce wealth and has done so to confirm a covenant He made with Abraham, which includes many blessings (see Deuteronomy 28:1-14) Your part of that covenant is to be obedient and use the ability God has given you to produce wealth and thus fulfill His plan to prosper you.

If you would like to know more about God’s plan to prosper you, order my book God’s Prosperity Plan, which is available on my website at www.RodNichols.com. I also have a complete 12-hour training available on DVD at the site.

Satan has tried to deceive people with a counterfeit secret in the DVD The Secret. Just as bank tellers learn how to spot counterfeit bills by studying real bills, it is important to know the truth, so you can recognize the counterfeit. The truth can be found in the Bible. In fact, the Bible says that the truth will set us free and isn’t that what we are seeking – freedom from all the things that hinder our ability to enjoy life?

Okay, here’s the real secret. You don’t need the information in The Secret in order to be like God. You are already made in the image and likeness of God. He has a plan to prosper you. If you let Him, He’ll live in you and will direct that plan through you, using the abilities He’s given you.

The Secret DVD teaches people to strive, whereas God wants you to relax, quite trying so hard, and abide in Him. All you have to do is ask Him what to do and what to say, and then be obedient – even if it doesn’t quite line up with the way you think things are to be done. He is all knowing, so just listen and do.

God’s plans are greater than your’s, so lay them down. As you give up your plans and submit to God’s, He will automatically use the abilities He has given you and wealth will be produced, as you are capable of handling it, relationships will be improved, and you will live a healthy, joyous life.

The Secret talks a lot about the Law of Attraction, but it only works when you are in the will of God. If you are outside of the will of God, then you are operating in the world’s system and Satan is illegally running this world. Satan may bless a person, which is why The Secret seems to work, but it is always with the idea of destruction. John 10:10 tells us that Satan came to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came to bring abundant life! So get smack dab in the will of God, by listening to what He says and doing what He tells you to do and you will attract good things - abundant finances, great relationships, excellent health, and more.

That’s the real secret!

There are some positive things i got out of reading the summary of the Secret:1 -> The battle is in the mind because your thought life controls your destiny 2. -> Take responsibility for your life, you are not a victim. One way or the other YOU must take responsibility for your actions. It's interesting how Kingdom principles are cleverly twisted and manipulated to sound just right, and how everything revolves around what's in it for you. Deception is quite dominant there and a VERY dangerous read.
