Yesterday was Valentine’s Day – a day to celebrate love. I found myself feeling as though my heart would bust at the seams as I reflected on how much love I was blessed with on a daily basis. The love of my God, the love of my husband, the love of my children, the love of my family and friends. The double layered cheesecake I made for my husband was very rich and sweet, but even more so was the love I felt from those around me.
As I reflected on the love in my life I had a clarifying thought. Love equals life. A great poet, Khalil Gibra once wrote - “Life without love is like a tree without blossom and fruit.”
My challenge to you today is to “Get A Life!” A life of love. Though the love I spoke of above that I share with my husband, children, family and friends fills my heart to the brim – the love of my God is what makes my heart overflow. It overflows with life. It stirs my soul. It drives me into a deeper dependence on Him.
Check out what the Word of God says in Duet. Chapter 30….
"The Lord your God will circumcise your hearts and the hearts of your descendants, so that you may love him with all your heart and with all your soul, and live….Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life…"
Wow – these verses just knock my socks off. So many people go through their day dead men walking, completely unaware that they are not living their life. Why? Because they have not chosen life. They have not chosen to love God with all their heart and soul. And I find it quite profound – that it goes on to say when you CHOOSE LIFE that you AND your CHILDREN may LIVE. If that arrow of truth doesn’t pierce your heart as a mother I don’t know what will. How you choose to live your life directly affects how your children will live.
Sadly, I believe many of us are not serving the Lord, our God with all our hearts and souls. We have served him so long with luke warm worship that it has become our normal. Many of us are serving our careers, our husbands, and even our children with all our hearts and souls – but not our God. God’s word says – NOW CHOOSE LIFE. He expects an immediate response. Listen to his voice and hold fast to him.
Don’t wait for the storms of life to drive you to hold fast to him. Don’t wait until tomorrow to stop and listen to His voice. Don’t accept luke warm worship as your normal. Choose life. Choose to love your God with all your heart and soul. Choose life so that your children may live. Choose life so that you may live.

That's one of my favorite passages and for a couple years (when my kids were babies) I had that posted over the kitchen sink. You're right: it's a choice we must make. I definitely want to choose life. :)
