Born again believers do you know what it means to think outside the box? It means to go outside the boundaries of normal activity, thought and practice. "So how do we do this Chris?" you ask. Well I am so glad you asked. We all (most likely) use the traditional method of witnessing, that is just talking to people around us, be it friends or family about the gospel of Christ. That is all well and good and we SHOULD be doing that.
But what about the total stranger that you may never see in your life? "What do you mean Chris?" you ask. This is what I mean:
1. What do you do with those business reply envelopes that come in credit card approval mailings? Right, you toss them in the trash. Well, no more! Take that reply envelope and stick a gospel tract inside and send it back! It is incoming mail and someone has to open it, right? Well, you have just witnessed to a total stranger you may never see in your life...and you just thought outside the box!
2. One Saturday night I was up late...okay REALLY late working on an article for this site and on a TV channel I saw an advertisement for one of those local singles companies that you call the local phone number to be matched up with a man or woman in your area. You can either talk live to someone or leave a voice message that someone else can listen to and see if you match up with them. Well, If you talk live with someone, gear the conversation into an area where you can talk about church or at least religion or better yet God himself and just see where things go. OR if you opt to just leave a message that someone will listen to, leave the gospel message of salvation in Christ Jesus! I know that may seem a bit drastic or whatever, so I would STRONGLY advise anyone who thinks about trying this to pray about it first and ask God if he thinks you are ready for something like that!
3. I know there are a lot of gospel tracts out there to choose from, some are better than others in my opinion, but THE absolute BEST gospel tracts on the planet today are Chick tracts from Chick Publications. If you have heard of Jack Chick and his cartoon gospel tracts then you know what I mean. If you have not then here is the tract ministry web site for you to check out:
Jack hand draws and writes his own gospel tracts that tell a short, wonderful story that blends the gospel of Christ into a seamless mix of truth, story and reality. His most popular and widely read tract is called "This was your life" and has a circulation total somewhere in the millions of copies around the world and in multiple languages. They virtually speak for themselves. His company also publishes books that cover such subjects as corrupted Bible translations, heresies, false religions and how to witness to people with Chick tracts. If you go to the web site, you can read every gospel tract online for free to find the ones you want. And the tracts are cheap too if you decide to buy whole packs of 25 or just singles. Be sure to request a free catalog as well.
Using Chick tracts is easy and they draw near instant attention. You can leave them anywhere you are. Give them to your waiter at the restaurant or at least leave one with your tip. Leave them in restrooms. I left some in the laundromat at my apartment complex, so try that. Give one or more to the person at the checkout counter. I got a letter from Jack Chick with an order I placed once (which was just a standard letter that is sent out with every order) where he encourages people to create their own ministries and use Chick tracts as your gospel "weapon" (if you will) of choice.
You might also try a mass mail out to all your family members using tracts. I created a ministry and did that very thing. I stuffed envelopes full of tracts and mailed them without return addresses to everyone in my family; aunts, uncles and so on.
If you think of something not listed here, try it! Build a web blog (online journal) through this web site:
You will literally have a worldwide mission field at your fingertips this way! Something else you can try is witnessing to those troubled girls we constantly see in the news and on the show TMZ on Fox 4. Yeah, I'm talking about Paris Hilton and her sister Nikki, Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson and the like. They may not know which way is up, but they still need Jesus Christ as their Saviour! Just Google them to find contact information.
These are just some examples of how we need to think outside the box as born again believers. You may not agree with one or more of these ideas and methods, but that's alright. You can either stay confined inside your box...or take a peek at the boldness that lives...outside the box!
