I groaned and hung up the phone. OK everyone, assume your positions! I grabbed the Windex and a towel, my husband grabbed the vacuum cleaner and my son scrambled for his room so the potential buyers could realize there was a floor in there. We were getting good at this. And in record time, our two golden retrievers were soon vying with our son for space on the car’s back seat as we drove down the street.
We had our home listed for six months, and the For Sale signs began to disappear from every yard but ours it seemed. What was taking so long? Frustration and short tempers sometimes appeared as we tried to keep the house showroom ready. The bright spot was I believed I had the cleanest house on the block!
We were moving to be near my husband’s family in Pennsylvania and had a house already under contract with a contingency of this one selling. I even had a job waiting for me at the real estate office where we found the home since the Office Manager was almost done with her accounting training. She planned on moving into her career field soon. However, six months turned into a year, and the broker said he had to give the job to someone else because he couldn’t wait any longer.
As I settle into my seventh year in Pennsylvania and look back, I realize with gratefulness how awesome God’s timing is. The home that we originally lost the contingency contract on was replaced by a bigger home at a better price on a quiet little cul de sac in the neighborhood we wanted to be in. The broker ended up creating a job for me that used all my creative talents after we moved. And as I watched the position that was supposed to have been mine, again I was grateful because I never would have enjoyed that Office Manager position. And I think most importantly, the Lord delayed our move because a friend needed my support because her husband suddenly decided to leave her. My husband began repairs on her home, and I helped her and her three children with emotional and spiritual support for the months we waited to move.
Is your home for sale and you’re itching to move and get on with your life? Just pray and try to be patient. It probably won’t be until long after you’ve packed your last box and moved until you realize why the Lord delayed you. He has an awesome plan for your life and He needs you right where you are right now. Your home is not selling because your job is not done yet where you’re at. So as you pray, you can look forward with excitement to the answers of your prayers in the Lord’s timing!
