This week, I was at Walmart in Greenwood, South Carolina…Sleet, rain, and snow were falling as diamonds from the sky…I was shopping; and when I came out, I could not locate my car…This is my usual way at Walmart…For some unknown reason to me, I seem to be unable to find my car when I am leaving Walmart…Sometimes, I remember this fact, and I find a land-mark that will help me find my car after I exit the store…At other times, I do not think to do this…So it was, this evening; I did not spot a land-mark that would allow me to find my car when I was leaving…
Therefore, when I left the store in the rain, sleet, and snow, I was unable to locate my car…This was not one of those sunlit days in which I can look around for my car until I find it…This cold, wet, dark, and somewhat frustrating evening brought to me a reminder to find a land-mark when I shop there…Too, I did not want to ask just anyone in the parking lot to help me…From this, I went back into the store, and one of the greeters was kind enough to assist me…As I was waiting for assistance from a manager, the security officer, whom I will call “R”, came by with a woman and a little girl…I surmise this was his wife and daughter perhaps…I knew him from being in the store and having book-signings at this particular Walmart…The greeter (Mr. Wilson) and I saw “R” at the same time…We explained my dilemma, and “R” said he will check outside and be right back…
“R” went out in the rain, sleet, and snow and located my vehicle…He came back and told me exactly where it was…It was not facing the way I thought I had parked, but it was in the general area…What was so funny too was that the snow had somewhat covered the back window on which I have “Feathers from Above” etc… One thing I did do right was that I remembered the general description of my car and the tag number, which I mentioned to “R”…
This evening I had attended a church in Ware Shoals, S.C.; and I was on my way home when the weather worsened while I was shopping in Walmart…I was tired, frustrated, and wondering what do I do when I was cold, wet, and unable to locate my vehicle…Oh! The wonder of a kindness…It never ceases to amaze me that in this world we hear about the bad, trouble, sadness, and often devastating events…In light of this event, I am reminded too that there is a great deal of good and lot of good people who do a lot of good things…”R” found my car for me, and I was blessed…My need was met, my anxiety was allayed, my heart was reminded of another’s kindness, and I knew how it felt to be the recipient of a kind gesture…It is my prayer that I can remain mindful that danger exist and sad things do occur; but, too, it is my hope that I remember that there is goodness all about me if I take the time to take note…
