My Valentine Heroes
America has always had heroes and, on this Valentine’s Day,
I’d like to make it personal ~ to say in my own way
That I consider every one who serves their country’s call
A hero or a heroine. I salute them, one and all.
My heart breaks for their families when they can’t come to call
And bring a dozen roses for their loves, however small;
A sweetheart, wife or husband ~ a child, mother or dad
Who know this one’s the sweetest one the world has ever had.
I call them all my Valentines and hope they understand
I love the families that give so much to save this freedom land.
My hat is off, my heart is touched, and I want them all to know
That there are many millions more who’d like to tell them so.
A letter or a phone call cannot take the place of flesh
And pictures on the TV, full of camouflaging mesh,
Only intensify the ardor of the prayers we kneel and say;
Forgetting not to pray them safety each and every day.
The sweetest Valentines I know are ringing Freedom’s bell,
The bravest souls my heart can praise, I can’t begin to tell ~
The dearest sons and daughters, standing in harms way,
Deserve the highest praise and prayers from all of; us each day.
