Last week Mitt Romney dropped out of the presidential race. Not that many people really knew much about him except that he was a Mormon and had enough money to pay for his own campaign. When people don’t know much about you, you have to be able to give them a reason to choose you over someone they’re more familiar with. More people will stop for a Big Mac than a Big Jack; at least until Big Jack proves superior tastiness. Romney didn’t do that. Until last week, when he dropped out.
On the radio I heard excerpts from the speech he gave the day he quit. He spoke forcefully, clearly and directly about our decaying culture, oppressive and deceitful government and other things. I thought to myself, “Why didn’t you say those things before. You might not have had to drop out.â€
The reason he didn’t say them before was because he was doing like all the other candidates (except Ron Paul, who’s always says exactly what he means); disrespecting our intelligence and being controlled by invisible rules of political correctness that do not allow us to call things what they are. But as soon as he dropped out he became like an old person. Old people will tell it like it is because they are past the point of trying to impress anyone. They’ve been through too much to worry about hurting the feelings of solipsistic fools at this stage of their lives.
Do you realize how pathetic, not to mention dangerous, this is? When public speech cannot be clear and plain because of fear of a politically correct backlash, we are lost. Because if nobody can speak plainly, the issues and ideas crucial to our lives as individuals and as a society cannot be seriously debated or defended. That means a president has to get elected on the basis of fantasy when you get down to it. In today’s world to operate by fantasy is to cooperate in our own destruction.
People pity the alcoholic who repeatedly says that he or she can quit drinking any time they want to because they see the huge distance between their words and the obvious damage they do to themselves and those who love them. And all agree that the path to recovery can’t begin until the alcoholic admits there is a problem.
The United States of America is like an alcoholic. It has a very threatening and serious problem with not being able to deal with and speak plainly about reality. The consequences can only be destruction and a huge waste of life and potential – all for nothing. As long as we are dominated by this demonic delusion we are no different from the heroin addict who jumps off a thirty story building convinced he can fly. And like the alcoholic, we have yet to admit that we are disgraceful and have forgotten how to blush.
What will happen to us, I know not. Only God’s mercy can spare us as a nation just as it has spared us as individuals. It seems clear that our demonic adherence to this suicidal stance is a mark of judgment because we seem to prefer this destructive delusion that not calling things what they are somehow changes what actually is.
God shall send them strong delusion that they should believe a lie… (2 Thes. 2:11)
There is no virtue in age of itself. Old people can be as stupid and delusional as younger people. But we are in great need right now of the plain speech that characterizes old folk. Sooner or later, no matter how much energy, money and self-deceit we pour into pretending that light is really darkness (Isa. 5:20) reality breaks through like a river overflowing its banks. It will not be stopped.
I’d love to see a black man become president. But I will not vote for Obama because he says he will approve homosexual civil unions. If he can’t see that without a clear definition of the family (which is foundational to our survival) as a man and a woman with children they take care of then he is not fit to be president, his blackness be damned! Foreign policy, economics, welfare reform, etc., don’t matter if you destroy the foundation of society in your demonic delusion that a square peg can fit a round hole! Society cannot endure those who support such vile fantasy. I have not voted in the past two presidential elections because my no vote is the only position of honor these jackals have left to me. And spare me the weak arguments that everybody repeats but nobody has thought through, about our ancestors dying for our right to vote, because I will destroy those arguments before your eyes like the match stick houses they are. They didn’t die envisioning the kind of morally diseased lepers we have become in this country.
We like to say, when things get unrecognizable, “it’s in God’s hands nowâ€. But that’s something we say when we feel our control is as at an end. Before that we felt like it was still in our hands. Well, it was always in His hands. The knowledge that it was in His hands before things fell apart as well as after they fell apart is the only comfort and foundation for reality we really have. Because the process of things falling apart, like a crack in the sidewalk, had begun unnoticed while we thought everything was sweetness and light.
The way things presently stand the so called senility of old age is a much more honorable thing than the voluntary, suicidal denial of reality that America specializes in and glorifies in its presidential elections (though I exempt the lone and honorable voice of Ron Paul).
Honor is a forgotten thing. But just because you forget that you have a liver doesn’t mean it won’t kill you in your alcoholic unreality. Honor is woven into the universe because God created the universe. As Psalm 37 says, the wicked are like grass, here for a time until they are cut down.
We can’t afford to let a false sense of time place us among them. I’d rather stand among the honorable senile.

be old, and just as stupid
as the younger folk. The
only difference is, you've
done a whole lot more stupid
things.....and, lived to
tell about them.
